Description
I am a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar...***** ***** ***** ***** *****
Felt like drawing ARIA, also felt like drawing Firefly, killed two birds with one stone and a time paradox (ARIA's set in 2301, Serenity's plated 2459). Actually I was suprised at how neatly the firefly design fits into the Aqua sky.
Yeah, I know, Serenity isn't particularly accurate, and it probably isn't very neighborly of her crew to be flying over a population centre with the reactor spill doors open, but I took some artistic license. With them closed she looks a bit wrong, like a 1980s 911 without the whale-tail.
Oh, for those who haven't yet seen Firefly/Serenity (and God of all things shiny help you if you haven't), you're really missing out. ---> [link]
What I was listening too ---> [link]
As for ARIA, that just has to be experienced.

If they ever try to start up the series again, without going to Fox, it'll have to have a new crew.Β Maybe a couple of the original crew could do cameos.

ARIA is really rare case...you wouldn't see any manga or comic book like that over a millenium.
Anyway, about the picture...it looks like Akari really interrupted with that flying object XD

Honestly, I don't think it takes much to distract Akari... and Serenity isn't exactly quiet in atmo
ARIA is indeed a rare case. I've heard that YKK is similar though, but have not had a chance to check out those claims.
Thanks

Yes ARIA & YKK quite same in it's silent environtment, but YKK sometimes too mysterious for me.
ARIA have some mysterious issue too-with no answer untill now- like for who actually she send emails, where does her parents go, or what is manhome look alike in that time. But the flow of the stories makes me doesn't care even if those question have no answers

Yeah, I know what you mean... to be honest it didn't bug me too much that there wasn't much explination behind the show though. I was happy to leave belief, cynicism, etc. at the door (as it were) and just enjoy the show... and at least Neo Venizia itself was very "real" and solid, which I think made up in some ways for the mystery elsewhere.
That actually probably in part explains why I wasn't such a great fan of the "magic" episodes/chapters (black-dress lady, galaxy-express). Neo Venizia is magical in its own self, somehow overstating that made it feel less "real"... if that make sense.
I did love the time-travel episode though

I love every episodes....because ARIA is supposed to be a mgicl journey through the author herself, that's not a problem
Neo-Venezia is really a palce to live in. But what I really got from the show is, we've got to make our country as peace as Neo-Venezia.

Neo-Venezia is really a palce to live in.
Very, very true. I can't remember where I read it, but someone summed the show up perfectly: "ARIA isn't something you watch, it's a place you go."

The peson said that is really wise. I mean, really. You'll never understand what ARIA is supposed if you never feel like 'I was there'

I love both shows, and they both have that sort of "retro sci-fi" vibe... had to combine them.

"retro sci-fi" that is one of the reason why i love ARIA so much! and that kind of manga is my favourite.

Very much so, as a matter of interest: have you seen Firefly too?
I like both, partly because they're a bit retro, but also because neither really leans on being in a sci-fi context. I mean like: ARIA would be just as enjoyable if you took out all the spaceships and related sci-fi paraphenalia. Firefly's the same, even though it revolves around people on a ship... most of what makes the show great is in the story-lines and the characters themselves.

i googled Firefly, it looks familiar to me, i think iv seen some of it, but really not sure....
yes, i totally agree with u. but for myself, i always be attracted to the background a lot, sometimes more than the characters.

wraith11 In reply to Aiyis [2009-04-04 08:35:02 +0000 UTC]
If you saw the movie "Serenity", then you've seen what was effectively the end of Firefly
Oh, don't get me wrong: I really like a well thought out, in depth and rich background. I just get annoyed when a series has to lean on that. Especially since, when a series does tend to lean heavially on "I'm a sci-fi series" the background is invariable badly thought out/totally unbelieveable. Firefly was good in that it did cover the backstory and had a very rich background. Aria was rich in that it was basically Venice, however beyond that it was a bit weak background wise (not to mention a few gaping research gaps and plotholes... which no-one cares about because it's ARIA, including me). One of the best backgrounds I've ever seen though is in the Honor Harrington series... though 600 pages of political manuvering is a bit hard to get through just to set up a war

True, but personally I also kinda hope they don't make anymore. It was great, and I'd like to remember it that way rather than wandering off into obscurity like say, Stargate.
Cheers mate.

i thought there's no fly zone above neo-venezia, the vibration due to wake turbulence can seriously damage those old buildings

wraith11 In reply to Buaya-kun [2008-05-25 11:10:17 +0000 UTC]
Well, the "regular" spaceships seem to fly around there no worries... besides, I don't think no-fly zones have ever really bothered Serenity's crew
Cheers for the fav mate

Buaya-kun In reply to wraith11 [2008-05-25 15:16:54 +0000 UTC]
actually, in real venezia, there's no fly zone above the old city below 3000ft MSL, the vibration cause by aircraft engine sound or air turbulance san seriously damage those old buildings. the problem is, when you approach for landing on Tessera airport runway 04R, you have to cross very tight turn above the city, that's why pilot advised to use step glideslope when approaching. very interesting, but makes live harder for those poor pilots, especially for they who fly jets

wraith11 In reply to Buaya-kun [2008-05-25 15:23:46 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, give it another 60 years or so and I don't think Venice will be habitable anymore. The place is sinking, boat wake is damaging the buildings, you name it. Seriously though: which Italian sat down one day and went: "hey, you know what would be awesome? If we built a city in the middle of the lagoon..." And then someone agreed with him. Only in Italy
Sounds like the best way into Tessera would be a reverse-thrust descent in a C-17 or something.

Buaya-kun In reply to wraith11 [2008-05-25 18:46:58 +0000 UTC]
sure that's the most brilliant idea at that time, looks lika a pirate's heaven
i think it will sink due to rise of sea level as effect of global warming, maybe that's what kozue amano saw in her vision when making aria
reverse thrust is bad for ears, the jetwash sound even louder that when takeoff
also opening reverse mid air id even more dangerous, when the reverser stuck you have no option than being like lauda air in bangkok years ago.

the spaceship looks pretty conventional, I thought it was gonna crash but hey, that's one lucky ship to land on Neo-Adriatic paradise. Let me guess, the ship never came back. the pilot decided to end his journey and live happily ever after
π: 0 β©: 1
wraith11 In reply to TGVart [2008-05-25 02:18:03 +0000 UTC]
Well, considering that it is Serenity, crashing probably isn't entirely out of the question
As long as Jayne leaves Vera at home, I don't see any reason why they can't settle on the Neo-Adriatic coast
