Description The year is 2176, with automotive crime on the rise, things are getting too hot for the Tokyo eX-Drivers. So when all else fails, who do you call? That's right kids: Judge Dredd, Auto Vigilante...
...Doesn't look all that dreadful does he?

Dear God remind me never to watch car realted anime, then immediately go and play car related games with really catchy soundtracks. You will spare yourselves a lot of pain. This was the result of watching "eX-Driver", then deciding to find and play "Interstate '76". Game's getting a little old now, but come on, basically what it entailed was driving around in your American muscle car, with guns and rockets and stuff mounted on the roof, and blowing up Datsuns. What could be cooler? That and it had the most incredibly funky and catchy soundtrack. I can still remember the opening "The year is 1976...blahbeblahbeblah-stuff about oil-blah...you are Groove Champion, Auto Vigilante..." Oh the stupidity.

Not overly happy with this one, but the concept was kinda cool, so I posted it anyway. I don't know, last night shot I did was pretty cool, for some reason this one just didn't work out. Too many city lights and lighting angles me thinks. That and the rendering on the car sucks. That was meant to be a GTO Judge by the way, but I think I managed to bugger that one up also.

Ahh well.

Cheers mate.

Not in the near future I'm afraid right now. I've got a backlog of work this long *waves arms vaugly in an encompassing motion*, but it's something to think about.

Hey, man! I don't know if you're still there, but...

I was checking some éX-Driver art and found this piece. Pretty nice!

BTW, in the description, you say year 2176...and I got curious. I watched éX-Driver a long ago and I don't remember much...by any chances do they tell the era the story happens? I mean, 22nd century, earlier, later?

Yeah, I'm still here... though not nearly as active as I used to be.

I don't think éX-Driver ever gives an exact date; I was just playing with the description for the game Interstate '76 [link] which runs something along the lines of "the year is 1976, and you are Groove Champion..."

I thougt it was a fanart dedicated to that fearsome Judge initially. In the world of today,we probably need more authoraties with that kind of attitude. As for this piece, the car and the character goes together very well so it ain't exactly bad at all.

Wraith 11

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dog283 In reply to wraith11 [2006-03-02 11:31:11 +0000 UTC]

GTO engine bottom end would be a big oil pan... 1/3 of it hanging there right where some big rockcould snag on it if you took it rallying (which you should never do to a GTO anyway) and then also the lower wishbones and trailing arms would be hang too low and be visible

maybe bits of exhaust too should be hanging around, by the middle where it would have to clear the tranny.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wraith11 In reply to dog283 [2006-03-02 12:52:13 +0000 UTC]

I think I need to go find some books of the undersides of cars Sounds like my sump, hanging real low I mean... That thing is HUGE... Seriously, a 4-cylinder engine that takes 6.1L of oil. At least I don't have to worry about having too little oil in there... just keep it above halfway on the dipstick and it's all good . Apart from that, the only thing I'm gonna take off is the exhaust.

dog283 In reply to wraith11 [2006-03-03 00:07:22 +0000 UTC]

Most Muscle cars are like that, you'll have lots of bits hanging under. It would have been nice if they put a skid plate or something like they do in SUV's but then again it was meant to stay on the road (straight roads too!). My Chevy had dents and crap on the oil pan from those parking lot block things... its that low!

I have this prefernce for Rally cars where they tuck everything neatly up out of harms way

6.1 Liters! wow. The Lancer takes 4L plus a wee bit more... oil is the life blood of the engine... I'm lucky Lancer-chan came with an oil pressure gauge standard so I can keep an eye on that. The Trooper takes 8L of Fully synthetic oil spec. for turbo diesels... and that makes me very poor every time it has to be changed that and the fact it has 2 oil filters!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wraith11 In reply to dog283 [2006-03-03 00:24:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that little guage is good. Always nice to see it hovering just around where it should be Mate, the Trooper sounds like a little bit of a pain when it comes to the oil system. Assumably though everything is relatively easy to get to...

WES

dog283 In reply to wraith11 [2006-03-03 00:31:46 +0000 UTC]

At the moment stuff is easy (but expensive) to get... what worries me is that the Trooper was phased out last year... and among Isuzu trucks the Trooper does not share parts with anything else. everything on the Trooper is unique to it so I wonder how long Isuzu will be making parts for it.

The engine worries me a bit too because although very powerful is also very complicated and prone to suffer death if it gets dirty oil or fuel (thats why it has 2 oil filters and 2 fuel filters).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wraith11 In reply to dog283 [2006-03-03 01:31:43 +0000 UTC]

Well, you said it was basically a Holden Jackaroo right? Well, parts should be pretty cheap from Australia, Holdens are like arses over here, everyone's got one

WES

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dog283 In reply to wraith11 [2006-03-03 04:01:10 +0000 UTC]

*LOL*... Actually the Jakaroo is a Trooper! (The other way around).

The Trooper was kind of a hit here (Best selling premium SUV for 3 years) so theres a bunch of them around so many in fact that I want to buy Holden badges off the net to differentiate mine.

But what worries me is far into the future, because unlike most people who replace their cars every 5 or 6 years we tend to keep 'em for much longer... and when something does not share parts with any other model they tend to run out of parts pretty early on.

... My Dad tells me that once, a long time ago Gen 1 Lancer's were all over the place and that you could buy service parts for 'em in the supermarket... but now... well, you already know.

Interstate 76 kicks ass! First 3d vehicular combat game... and one of the best. I'd also reccomend Vigilante 8 I and II (for PS1 and Dreamcast) games, they both have a very solid 70's theme with an equally funky soundtrack.

I love that fro...

Oh, as the asian noted earlier, Judge Dredd is a somewhat obscure comic book charachter who happened to be portrayed by Sylvester Stallone (Rambo, Rocky, etc.) in the movie rendition. Just thought it was worth noting.

That car has some pretty mean hardware, though. Nice!

the awesomeness level of any piece of work goes up about 200% by alluding to eX-Driver (ok not exactly alluding you metioned it!)

You pretty much got the GTO right except that the rear quarter pannel is a bit off, it should have sloped all the way to the tail. I'd agree that the lighting put it off a bit for this, probably should have been darker around.

still pretty awesome though... I like the shading in the grill area of the car
