Description
Been I need a bad way lately. MY depression and anxiety had spiked so hard I couldn't really function really function the last couple days. In that funk i figured "hey, I should draw what my anxiety looks like," one of the gifts an artist has has is that they can show how they're feeling. However, only thing I managed to do was realize I can't actually make art... I'm just a fetish artist and I'm kidding myself if I think I could be anything else.sorry for the delay, more fetish stuff is on the way.

The fact that this was uploaded on April first leads me to wonder if your for real on this, but speaking as someone who also suffers from crippling anxiety/depression, I can say that is about exactly what I pictured my anxiety and depression (among other less than healthy emotions) to look like. But seriously man don't hurt yourself with this. Fetish art is a bit out there, but you do the job well, and if it really bothers u that it's what u do primarily you CAN do something else if u want, and the fact that this isn't fetish art is proof that u can. Just... do what makes you happy, man. And don't think u can't do that, cause you can at least try. It's better than letting little monsters like those eat away at you like that. Don't give up, find the light, and chase those little bastards away

I'll begin by saying, my sympathies. This a delicate matter and it's not easy everyday when Depression is harassing one's self.
I've had many similarly dreary dark moments in the past, and recognizing you have some kind of issue is not an easy thing to admit to one's self. There's no easy for everyone guide to getting out of that kind of a funk. But I do hope you'll feel better soon and that it won't stick with you for too long.
I've spend several days going through the last couple years worth of art that I've missed from you and I can tell that your skill and techniques have improved. And you certainly do have talent. It's easy to find yourself in a rut and picture one's self as a one trick pony. But I can assure you that I've seen your artistic shine through other lens as well. Even if fetish art is your mainstay on the DA. Here are some of the things that you've practised through it, that can totally be used in other manners too. Characterization, Expression, Body language, Poses, Action movements, Color matching, Shading and Lighting, Background, Comic Panelling, Story Flow. Anatomy, Animal anatomy. And those are just the ones that came to my mind!
Keep building your portfolio, keep working at it and maybe in a couple months, a couple years. We'll be watching your art live on TV cartoons, in some games, adapted from your concepts. Don't hesitate to try other arts. As much as I enjoy all kinds of TFs coming from you, I'm sure that I don't speak only for myself when I say we'd enjoy any arts that make you happy to be creating it.
Most important of all, good luck! Keep strong!

This picture looks genuinely disturbing. I'm afraid this seriously undermines your conclusion that you're only good as a fetish artist.
Anyway, don't feel too bad Wren. Horrible, crippling mental/emotional conditions are just part and parcel of being an artist. If anything, you should find the self-doubt reassuring, it's proof that you've already paid the entry price.

Here is the funny thing about fetish art, you are becoming an expert on drawing nuance, suggestion, and subetly like no one else can.
Anyone can draw boobs and a nice but, but to get across character, intention, intelligence and personality which really creates that sexyness and appeal, that does take talent like no one else has. Seriously, one of these days take out that sketchbook of yours and just draw out every thought that comes to mind you will surprise yourself with what your imagination can create.

Well... first of all, quite an astounding piece you did there, mate - though given the circumstances behind its creation, I'm not quite sure if that's ultimately a good thing or not
Now then - personally, I might not be the best example to tell you this (perhaps I'm even hypocritical doing so right now), but you're putting your self-esteem much lower than needed. True, your current form of existence (= Dev-ID) may be mostly recognised for its fetish art (if one has to say so) - but who's to say you couldn't under someone else?
Or let me put it this way: Who's to tell you what you can or can't be, but your very self? Your real-live backgrounds aside, the only thing that hinders is you is yourself and what perception you may have of those around you (again, on DA now, I limit myself here now).
The sense of art is doing something that you like to do (or, in regards to Commissions for example, that's coming close to), not because of pleasing people (if that's what's still been driving you even now, then it's propably not a good thing at all).
People tend to change over time, that's simply the course of live, even if we may not like it. And if you don't feel like going this course anymore, then don't.
Heck, I know a great deal of people having gone through the same path - as in fetish-art I mean (god how I hate that term) - only to have turned their backs on it and gone after what they prefer to do now, me included (though I would prefer not seeing myself as a fetish artist, even if the outside world may see things as such, regardlessly).
A good friend told me you just gotta have to think through what's it you wanna do with your talents and how - if doing so-called 'fetish-art' (still) fulfills you or not and, if not, what's your driving motivation gonna be from there on.
In worst case, take a break - no matter how long it takes (mine's been going for 2-3 years now I believe), see the world while trying to find your spark/inspiration/driving motivation, again and once you find it, stick to it and do what, again, you like to do - people/friends/fans will understand; and if not, then don't bother, 'cause they weren't worth it then if they only took their liking to you for one aspect rather than the person behind it.
Perhaps you may also check this perticular item on the sidelines, - title aside, I believe it has some good words of wisdom integrated into them:
HOW TO BECOME ~!POPULAR!~Alternate Title:Β "Nudy pics with no effort get more views than this character with 20 layers of clothing and 500 accessories I spent 6 hours perfecting" EXPLAINED!
So this is a topic that pops up every now and again when people understandably get exasperated by the trend of viewership on DA (and most art sites in general). Everyone knows how it works; show some boob or a sexy pose and you're guaranteed at least a 5:1 improvement on your view count for that deviation compared to others. Users who focus exclusively on admittedly mediocre fanservice content receiveΒ hundreds of thousands more views, and even comments, than users who do so less often or not at all.
And so you complain. What's the point of putting so much effort into these characters or these images when some random guy gets 30k views from copy-pasting the same image 10 times in a row and increasing the boob slider each time? It's not fair! People should take more time to comment and favorite a
Again, your call - sorry for the wall of text, I hope it was still helpful, though.

Of all the art I've seen on this site I have never stopped and studied a work as much as I have with this piece. It has a stark contrast to everything else you've done. It is easy to forget there is a person behind the art, that they dedicated time and care to put a part of themselves on paper for us to see. This piece is a powerful reminder that there is a person with fear and aspirations all their own just on the other side of that username. Thank you for sharing Wrenz, if art is supposed to inspire thought and self reflection, You have succeeded here.Β

I've been watching you since I found DA. You're not just a fetish artist. You definitely show talent for plenty of other stuff. Don't let any one thing pigeonhole you. The expression you show in this piece is amazing. I doubt anyone could look at it without feeling the latent emotion behind it. Those who have observed your work for a long time will support you branching out, and experimenting. Heck, your sci-fi stuff was what really got me hooked (cute Twi'lek), and I've enjoyed all your other stuff since. We're behind ya Wren.
