Was Smaug by chance part of your inspiration for the design? I see a lot of parallels.
Either way, gorgeous pic. I love all the little details in there. Really brings it to life.

Yeah he was. Especially since I think the spike shapes kinda give it away. Smaug has been a huge influence on my dragon designs since I saw the Desolation of Smaug. He's just such an attractive dragon!

No arguing there. The Chiefest and Greatest of Calamities was done superb justice to in that movie. Easily the most charismatic and memorable dragon in mainstream media.

Without a doubt! To be honest as much as I love dragons I find a lot of cinematic dragons to be rather mediocre. But when I saw Smaug I was blown away... he's simply unparalleled. Design, sound, movement...everything! Like I literally had chills during the first shot when he emerged from the gold pile in TDOS. I wish other design companies would take Weta's example. And hopefully we'll see another action figure in the future that puts that pathetic attempt The Bridge Direct disgraced us fans with. Cause a dragon like that deserves a kingly action figure...not some wimp-puny over-priced Walmart quality POS.
