here's the black and white lineart wretchedspawn2012.deviantart.c… Why exactly did I do this? Well I see a lot of cool realistic Pokemon art out there but I honestly don't see a whole lot of satisfying realistic Yugioh monsters, so I'm taking a go at it. And I think Yugioh deserves some light in this "making cartoon monsters realistic" party. Slifer is my personal favorite so I started with him. As always, the point is to keep the iconic features while adding more texture and anatomical structure. If you know me I don't like compromising character for scientific accuracy, while at the same time throwing in things I think would look cool. I tried to keep it close to the colors of the original card. Eventually Obelisk and Ra will join him. For the record, I miss the old Yugioh, when it was actually dark and had a cool ancient mythology behind it...

How long did it took you to draw this piece of art? It looks really amazing. Slifer is my favourite yugioh card by far (I actually don't really like yugioh, but some cards look awesome)

You did an amazing job on Slifer . You did it too on Obelisk and Ra, but Slifer is my favorite
I agree YGO has much less realistic fan art and is really inspiring to see your view on the matter. If you decide to keep on the series, I would suggest "Gandora the dragon of destruction" since he has less fan art then Blue Eyes, which I presume would be the most likely choice for a dragon lover

I don't really consider this as real as I originally thought, as much as it's a "if I were to beef up this monster this is what I'd imagine it to be more like" type of fan art. I think Slifer tends to lean towards everyone's favorite when it comes to Yugioh dragons, he's quite different from the other dragons in the series. He has a very nice modernized Asian dragon feel. Gandora would be interesting to tackle, it'd be way down the road though since I do have a Blue eyes in the works.
The problem I see with a lot of Yugioh fan art is I see too many people doing a lot of the same thing....mostly folks just copying their basic in-show appearance and not experimenting with style. I've seen some decent ones here and there, but not enough to really stand out.

I think your painting is awesome. I like that you added several spikes and made his hide look ragged, as if he's seen much action himself. I also like the original Yu-Gi-Oh more than the spinoffs. And I prefer the original Japanese over the English-dubbed.

Thank ya! An Egyptian God does not return from a fight without battle scratches! I mean Diabound did blow off Slifer's upper half. The spinoffs just seem way out of context (and over the top) with what the original established. I mean even if they just continued making seasons with the original cast like the Orichalcos/ Leviathan season, I'd still be watching it. Even though it was filler it was fun to watch nonetheless. And the lame rock music the new series have is a big turnoff for me too, I like me a good score and the original had so many cool and iconic orchestral themes. But I will have to take the english dubbed version over the Japanese cause I'm a silly American lmao

YES with the original crew! I tried (really hard) to watch some episodes from other series and just couldn't do it without cringing and getting annoyed XD besides a few cool monsters here and there they just don't have the same touch unfortunately

Oh boy I can't remember the last time I watched Pokemon. It's nearly over a decade. I don't think i've kept up since the first movie (where Pickachu turned to stone or something idk I don't remember it too much) but Yugioh's later series are full of characters that are both unlikable/ annoying and look ridiculous (even for anime) and have weird accents. And the cheesy rock music that constantly plays in the background turns me off too..ugh the classic Yugioh had an actual score -_- back in the day when everything had a cool orchestral theme
