It greatly irks me how Celestia has almost as many haters as she has fans whereas Luna has many fans and little to no haters. Now, I by no means hate Luna, I just like Celestia far more. When Luna became evil, due to jealousy and bitterness she could've refused to give into and tried to cover Equestria with eternal night that would've spelled certain doom for the ponies, Celestia ruled all by herself for the thousand years that followed, bringing both the night and day, keeping her chin up for the sake of her subjects, etc. Also, Celestia is Twilight's mentor, even a mother figure, the one who reads the lessons learned by Twilight and her friends. She clearly deserves more love than she has.Related content

2. Because Twilight, her student, is way younger than she is
3. She's ruled for a long time over the ponies and sent Luna to the moon

For #3, it wasn't Luna who got sent to the moon. Nightmare Moon was sent there. Everyone won't listen to reason and they thought Nightmare turned back into Luna when she got banished.

I agree with you. Must have been tiring doing the jobs of both her sister as well as herself for thousands of years, that said, I like luna as much as I like celestia. They are my 2 favorite ponies though i agree that celestia needs more love.

She isn't hiding anything. Anything we don't know about her is because 1. she isn't the focus of the show and we don't see her day-to-day life, and 2. it's none of our or the mane 6's business.
Also, she's not perfect. She's been shown to have a bit of a prankster side (which considering everyone keeps walking on eggshells to please her, I can't blame her). Also as someone without any equals aside from Luna, she doesn't have that many friends (which, in a show all about friendship, is a huge issue). The only ones that come close are Twilight and her friends, and they still treat her as a princess first. And she can't just order people to be her friends, or if she tried to make friends people would again just treat her like a princess and not as an equal, preventing her from forming those bonds.

Methinks you've expressed some of the most accurate views of Celestia. While I prefer Luna and enjoy joking about the fandom's versions of Celestia (which are based on aspects of her actual character but blown up into extreme, out-of-proportion, wholly separate things), I am a canon-Celestia fan as well. She *is* interesting, & there *is* plenty to like about her...and I don't see her as a completely perfect, flat, dull character, either. She is rather godlike, in the mythological sense, and they are, of course, anything but dull and boring...

Did I ever say she was a tyrant? I'm saying she is not as perfect as she seems. or perhaps she was a tyrant at somepoint in history, or can become one. you cant rule for 1000+ years almost unchallanged without playing at least a little dirty. besides, she's a royal, and you cant trust royalty.

The fanon evil tyrant Celestia pretty much destroyed the character for many people.
Personally i love Celestia, she is regal and proper but with a good sense of humor.

I like both styles,the S1 one was more "cute" but then again shes a ruler and thousands of years old so has to look regal.
but Celestia is still #1 for me.
She had to banish her sister and live with it for 1000 years ruling alone, she needs our love even if she doesn't show it.
