Lauren didn't say she wanted the characters straight, she said that RD's sexuality was never referenced in the show. msmagazine.com/blog/2010/12/24β¦ Though she did say that it's unfair to assume she is gay based on stereotyping because it's unfair to others who share RD's traits who aren't lesbian. So it's not a yes or a no to her being gay.
Regardless, here's how I see it: Their sexuality doesn't really matter even if they do confirm it one day (Which I doubt because the show is for all ages) because it wouldn't change how awesome they always were.

I can't see any of the ponies being of any sexual orientation. The closest we see is Spike's crush on rarity (not a pony, but a dragon), And Rarity liking Blueblood. It's a show for little kids, for crying out loud!

I refuse to believe that Rainbow Dash or any of the ponies (that goes for the main cast, CMC, and BG ponies) are lesbians and nothing will change my mind!

I can understand the fact that she's not confirmed to be gay, but none of the mane 6 are actually confirmed to be straight either. (Perhaps with the exception of Rarity and Twilight who are seen to have crushes on colts.) And anyway, since the show isn't about romance, it's irrelevant anyway, and is just down to headcanons and personal shippings. So my point is - believe what you wish, it won't ever be confirmed or denied. Just don't be an asshole about it.
