I have two rules for F/F shipping.
One, I do not, and never will, accept Rainbow Dash as a lesbian, the other Mane 6 I don't really care. I despise people making Dash a lesbian most of the time, sorry.
And two, I HATE it when someone writes a fanfic or something where ALL or most of the characters are lesbians. An example of this is "The Life and Times of a Winning Pony" on FIMFiction. There's a ton of ships in that fanfic, and only one is straight, and that's cheerimac. Hell, they even made Dash's parents lesbians. I'm okay with F/F usually, but not when straight shipping is so horribly overshadowed.
Also, I hate "magical lesbian spawn", I only accept M/F as being able to conceive.

The creators didnt say they didnt want them gay. They're clamming up about the subject because on one hand, they lose a boatload of bronies that actually buy their shit, and on the other hand, they'll have christians bitching and whining that they dont want their kids to think that being gay is okay. Ever considered the reason theres so many people with lesbian pony shippings is that there arent that many guys to pass around? And even IF RainbowDash was a lesbian, whats wrong with that?

I never knew being a tomboy makes you a lesbian. I'm a tomboy myself, so does that make me lesbian? No.
And I think some of the lesbian idea comes from the yuri fans. A lot of people in fandoms (..including me, I ship yaoi pairings((But I don't like yuri)), but I don't say "OMG THIS CHARACTER'S GAY 'CAUSE I SHIP HIM WITH A GUY") 'ship' same-gender couples, and some think the characters are gay/lesbian just because they ship them with a same-gender character.
I've also noticed that really any time when two characters are nice to each other, (or even just shown standing by each other or sitting by each other) people are like "OMG THY LUV EACH OTHR<333333333333333", and the shippers begin shipping them together. Like I said, I ship a lot of couples when it comes to yaoi, but I dont think "OMG SINCE THS DUDE WUS NICE 2 HIM HE LUVS HIM!1111!11111!"

Well ehh... In the actual show she is most likely not gay, but like... There is a fandom out there, and you simply can't discuss whether she's a lesbian or not in the fan-art. Since Rainbow Dash isn't real, the whole subject is actually pretty dumb. People can imagne what they want. In the show I don't see her as a lesbian, but the idea of her being that is personally cute to me. I really love lesbian ponies.... not for the sexual arousal, I just think it's o-so very cute. But that is just me, and since people are different there will never be an agreement on whether she's a lesbian or not. So I just try to keep away from the discussions, since it's pointless... I know I just joined a disussion, but I felt like this needed to be said.

I just know that during the Ms. Magazine deal, she attacked the accusation that Rainbow Dash was a lesbian because of her tomboyish attitude and connection to rainbows without necessarily implying that she couldn't be one in spite of these things. I couldn't care less if she was heterosexual, but it seems odd to me that Faust could forgo the ambiguity she initially put in place in favor of announcing their sexualities at a time where it would be inconsequential. It almost seems cowardly. I thought it would be more likely that you may have misinterpreted the message, especiallly seeing as how you seem to be biased towards F/F shippers.

If people just think RD is a lesbian just because she's tomboyish, it's an insult to both straight tomboys and lesbians. It implies that lesbians must be bluff and act like men, and implies that all tomboys are lesbians. Both of which are NOT true.

It wouldn't be. Wouldn't be the first gay or lesbian character featured in cartoons on American television. South Park had several. So did Sailor Moon though it origiinated as a Japanese show. While I doubt MLP will be the attitude adjustment the US sorely needs about gays and lesbians, it's not that farfetched.

South Park is meant for a much more mature audience, Sailor Moon was developed in a country where octopi are acceptable copulating partners, making homos seem like the least radical sexuality. If they did make a lesbian character, I would prefer it not be RD, simply because it would be pandering to stereotypes and speak of laziness and a refusal to break from the norm.

And yet, that's acceptable in a cartoon environment. America has its fair share of unusual fetishes. Including the entire furry movement which originated here. Hell there is a significant following of My Little Pony who ARE a mature audience. But my point was more that I don't think gay characters is all that 'mature.' Homosexuality exists. Hiding it from kids is stupid.
In any case, while it's true that not all tomboys are lesbians, that doesn't mean there aren't lesbians who are also tomboys. And forbidding lesbian characters from having those traits seem just as silly to me as insisting all tomboys are lesbians. After all, the aforementioned Sailor Moon had both an extremely effeminate and beautiful lesbian and a tomboy lesbian. Both are just fine.

I still think that they shouldn't bend to stereotypes, regardless of truthfullness. And who says it has to be RD? Is the show so bone dry of other possible les characters that she is the only possible option? I have sometimes pondered if RD is in fact the only straight one of the bunch, (well, then there's Rarity, but that's another story.)

I don't think it has to be RD, or anyone really. But I also don't think 'Oh a tomboy lesbian, how clichΓ©' is fair to people who are actually like that, just as who they are. And there would be nothing wrong with RD being a lesbian.
