*EDIT* I changed the names...I didn't realize they were so similar to the books...Yay!
Two uploads relatively close to each other!Anyway, this is my entry for club's 'Design Rain's Parents' contest.
Sire: Thunderstruck
Color: heterozygous Black Frame Overo
Dam: Zephyr
Color: Flaxen Chestnut Tobiano
Explanation behind colors: Since Rain is a Chestnut Tovero, her parents must carry one Tobiano gene and one Overo gene. I decided on the Frame Overo gene because of her large white face and blue eyes. Blue eyes are much more common in Frames than Sabinos. As for the Chestnut part, Thunderstruck is heterozygous for Black, meaning he carries one Black gene and one Chestnut gene.

I love your logic, but Kathleen Dewey authored a book called "Sierra," which is a book that sequels "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimaroon." In it, a dam named Sierra meets a stallion named Thunder, or somethin like that. And at the end, their filly is none other than Rain. And the weird part is, Sierra's mother, or rain's grandmother, is Bonita (I think that's the name ), which I think is Spirit's MOTHER...huh. Just thought I'd tell ya that.

Well, I know Spirit's mother's name in the movie is Esperanza. I honestly haven't read the books though and they have no affiliation with the movie AFAIK.

Welcome..Cathleen Dewey has a book called "Esperanza," and as you said, it's probably about Spirit's mother.

Yup, I've done a lot of researching and comparison online.
Eye color is tricky, like how there are different types of blue eyes caused by different genes.

I am going to look that up in my body encyclopaedia now! Because i don't know why you get eye colours from genes, and i want to know that now! I don't like the feeling of not knowing.... You must know a lot of stuff about genes affecting colours

You get everything from genes.
Example: My mom has brown eyes, but she is heterozygous for them(only has one brown eye gene), ahe also carries a blue eye gene(her father had blue eyes). So her eye color genetically is (Bb). My dad has blue eyes, which means he's homozygous for blue. His genetically is (bb).
Now, with this combination there is a 50% chance for any offspring to have brown eyes, and 50% chance for blue. You figure that out like this:

It explains why i have blue eyes. my mum has brown eyes, and my dad blue, but i never got why I have blue eyes, as i thought brown was dominant. Thanks! My book turned out not to have ANYTHING on eye colour at all

I finally found the eye colour bit under "hereditary". Why would someone think of looking there for it? Well, maybe just not me....But blue eyed people only have blue genes, and i really wish i could find a less simplified diagram or explanation (aka one without coloured squares)
