Description
This is a drawing I made for the Rime XLIX by Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer who was a very famous poet and writer in Spain.(Spanish):
<< Alguna vez la encuentro por el mundo,
y pasa junto a mí;
y pasa sonriéndose, y yo digo:
—¿Cómo puede reír?
Luego asoma a mi labio otra sonrisa,
máscara del dolor,
y entonces pienso: —Acaso ella se ríe,
como me río yo. >>
Unfortunately there isn't a translation to english . I can only make a crappy translation myself so some things like the rhyme and a lil' of the words' meanings will be lost.
(English):
<< Sometimes I found her in the world,
and she passes next to me;
and goes smiling, and I say:
'How can she laugh?'
Then at my lip sticks another smile out,
mask of pain,
and so I think: 'Perhaps she laughs
as I laugh'. >>
This poem is pretty special to me. I think it represents the hurt some relationships can leave within us. We don't want to be hurt again so we just fake a smile in front of those who we were involved with before; wondering if they are making the same smile as we do, meaning the past relationship meant something for both parties or if it was just an illusion, nothing had a meaning and we never had a place in the other person's heart in reality.
(Sorry in advance if I have any spelling mistakes or grammar mistakes, I am not a native speaker so I make a lot of them).
(I know I have some mistakes so please if you leave a comment and if you point out those don't be rude).
