Azuolas remained where he was as the younger male turned his back and swatted a hapless stone into the deepening shadows. There was no doubt the Adnos possessed a deep love for his kin, but he was not averse to driving a fang into an open wound to make a point in retaliation.

“— but those are vicious little words coming from a pup who hesitated when Godhood was offered. Tell me brother, did you stain your jaw with mansblood?”

The silver male moved close enough to his brothers’ side that their cheeks touched. He breathed deeply of his brothers’ scent before lifting his muzzle to his ear in a threatening whisper.

“I think not.”

He paused to allow his words to sink in, his hot breath ruffling the tufts of fur his sibling so despised before he moved away with a satisfied smile. He turned his back on Esban then, his unseen gaze drifting to the mountain peaks that housed Remiel, the importance of the landmark no doubt lost on his wayward kin. Esban had made his choice, and it was a choice he would have to atone for if he hoped to rise above his station.
