Description Almost done - just a few minor things to do tomorrow before I leave for the con:

- make the bottom lip
- paint a few natural white markings on the face
- sew a velcro closure in the back
- fix the mask's right ear (it's a bit floppier and at a slightly different angle)
- put the black mesh in the tear duct vision

How do you see out of it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wynderkind In reply to MissyValentine [2011-03-11 12:42:52 +0000 UTC]

The dark areas between the eyeballs and the nose. Anatomically - the tear ducts.

Very very pretty! How the hell did you get that fur so beautiful around the curved muzzle? And how did you trimm the fur so even? And why can't I see any sewingline, even where the short fur is?

wynderkind In reply to luthien368 [2011-03-11 07:26:28 +0000 UTC]

1) Thanks!
2) Electric clippers for dog grooming
3) The clippers have different size guards to ensure an even length away from the "skin" (in this case, the fur fabric base)
4) The fur on the face is one continuous piece that only has three seams: one on the bottom center of the jaw where the ends meet and one small one at each temple (dart seams). Additionally, it was glued down as opposed to sewn. The only true sewing seams on the head are on the center of the hood, and where the hood attaches to the face - but that was sewn by hand and then I carefully picked the fur out of the seam. That, combined with the hair being long, naturally hides the seams completely

I learned all of this from watching Qarrezel and asking her questions. You should really check out her work if you have never seen it: [link]

Thank you very much. I feared yo much that you used these dog-cutters - waeh, I don wanna buy such extra stuff I bought a normal one for human hair, but that one totally sucked :/ I should ask our local dog-hairstylist for her prizes ^^.

Surely I know Quarrezels ... let's call it art, for suit seems sucha small word for what she does. But to be honest I've never watched one of her livestreams or chatted with her. And why learn from one of the best, when there are so many who can do (almost) as good as she does *poke*.

I wish you all the best for your further work and hope to see more

LOL
Oh, come on, it's my first ever attempt at anything like this - I don't fancy myself as "almost" anywhere near her level.

Also, the clippers I bought came in the Wahl Pro Series Pet Clipper Kit - Heavy Duty. It can be plugged in or used cordlessly and comes with 5 different guard lengths. Wal-mart - $60

luthien368 In reply to wynderkind [2011-03-11 17:14:28 +0000 UTC]

Well, for your first attempt it really is good. And it looks way more realistic than a lot of professional attempts on realistic fursuits.

Well, maybe when I have a little more money (I just finished my second apprenticeship) I'll think about buying such a shaver.

wynderkind In reply to kur-at [2011-03-11 07:17:18 +0000 UTC]

1) I am not certain, as I have not worn it for any length of time
2) The forward vision is extremely good, but it is tunnel vision all the same (no peripheral vision at all)
3) Yes, the jaw moves with my own and is very responsive
4) Thanks!
