Description

Last summer, I decided to do a little comic practice.  I wasn’t entirely fond of the way I drew backgrounds, so I decided the main focus for these practice pages would be: the background, perspective, and overall flow of each page.

Sooo, how’d I do?  Anything that could be improved?  I’d appreciate any feedback to better myself as an artist.  The better I get, the higher quality my comic pages will become.   I’ll probably make more practice pages on some of my actual comic series (SatBK: Chaotix, and my TRACER series).  It’s about time I completed more of those anyway.

The story of these pages is continuing off from an idea I got after drawing a concept in this previous deviation> xaolin26.deviantart.com/art/So…

For the sake of understanding the concept of these comic pages, I’ll paste the basic premise of the idea here from the previous deviation:

The story starts off with Espio returning to his clan from a recent mission. He contemplates recent events, such as leaving the Chaotix and the Iron Queen conquering the Bride of Four Houses (events in this comic take place before Sonic Universe #13, so Espio is still with his clan after turning on the Chaotix). He returns to his clan only to find they’ve all disappeared. Upon discovering the wreckage, Espio is attacked by unfamiliar ninjas in black clothing. Espio manages to fend them off for a few minutes, then one ninja tackles him and both fall down the endless abyss. The rest of the ninjas leave them for dead and escape through a warp ring.

You're doing good at making Sonic comics! I wonder if you could work with the people who made Archie Sonic comics? That'll be a great idea!

Yaaay!  Thanks a bunch!   Perhaps one day I could work on the Sonic comics (I really hope I can someday).  It all depends on what the future has in store for me.

In the meantime, I just gotta keep practicing!

I think you're doing fine actually Really liking the details on the cloth in the finalised pencils.
How long does it usually take for you to sketch one comic page thumbnail? And how long for one finalised pencils page?

Oooh, thank you sooo much!  I wasn't sure how the clothing would turn out.  Hands are one thing, but folds in clothing takes FOREVUR to do....

For thumbnails it generally only takes me a few minutes to sketch it.  For me, thumbnails are just a way I can get my ideas on paper.  Sometimes I do multiple thumbnails for one page if I'm not happy about the layout.  Since thumbnails are quick sketches I don't put a lot of detail into them, just enough to get the idea across.

For the finalized pencils, hmmmm, I'd say about a week.  Though for a week I don't spend every hour of the day sketching the page.  For these pages I spent about 2-5 hours each day working on them.  It all really depends on what I'm drawing, how complicated the concept is, and how much detail I put into each page.
