Description Finally finished!

The two rifles have been through heavy frontline treatment. They look battered, but never failed and remain fully functional. The third one on a stand was in less demanding service, so it shows hardly any signs of wear.

And turned realistic 3D by yours truly.

And why original version? There will be licensed one as well!

Now, obligatory tech rambling.

Those of you, who care to look at my scraps, could have seen this one being worked on since quite some time. However, now we have peak of summer – which means other duties, and other fun stuff to do as well. So I wasn't giving this relatively small project much time in a day.

It's – again – quite experimental. In three ways.

First, hardsurface/mechanical modeling (as opposed to organic). It's been some time since I did anything serious there. It was good to refresh the skills – and see that my overall experience in 3D helps to tackle such modeling more efficiently than before.

Second, surface materials for mechanical objects. I became 'specialized' in organic shaders. So there was something new to learn here too. Especially that I want to make a whole 'line' of different guns, and having the materials good enough to be reusable could shave off a significant time from subsequent modeling works.

And third, weathering. Surface wear, grunge, that kind of things. Sure, technically part of the materials. But turned out to be so involved that it stands for a separate topic. As I've never did anything like that – this part took as many days as the others two combined! Now it seems to me that I overdid with the weathering – but frankly, I have enough tinkering with it. So this is the drop-off point.

I would like to build a physical version of this. Would you be willing to make the digital file available?

Man, tell me you're considering the submission of this design, please!

I wished you modeled one of my weapons. lol Awesome render! :3

We might actually give it a try! After all those years, I finally managed to learn what looks like appropriate, efficient modeling techniques for mechanical things (my previous approach, while it certainly worked, was limited and very time-inefficient). And I'd like to try my skills out.

Do you have any suggestions, which weapon would you like to have modeled? Just keep in mind, I'm not most confident with very sci-fi versions.

Mindblowing stuff!

I decided to let Blender rest for a bit and turned to vectoring weapons, but your advice will definitely help when I come back to it.

This is just so good, man. I'm still in awe of what you did here.

Great concept ^_^ There's missing picantinny mount for any foregrip or GL tho. The 3D model nd the detailing is stunningly amazing

Thanks!

I see what you mean with the rail. I just decided not to change anything in the original design. Except the ammo clip, which I had made long ago.

The design was based on Masada ACR, whose foregrip does seem to have some "holes" on the bottom, much like those to the sides, facilitating a foregrip mount. But I didn't notice the similarity to Masada till the modeling was practically finished. And then, I didn't feel like changing anything more.
