Nice sense of scale to the scene, the brush work gives it the old style grand landscape oil painting look that works very well for this type of work. Love the lighting on the canyon face to the right as well.

I adore the bleak light in the sky and how that reflects onto the brilliant rock face. Beautiful!!

Awesome seeing some art from you!
I really like the light on the cliffs. I think it gives an extra layer of depth to the picture, a touch of warmth and the idea that this could be a real place, in a way. It's hard to explain But it looks good!
And as always, I like your inclusion of the figure in the artwork. I'm not sure what he's doing there, and why the birds are flying around but I like that since it leaves room for the imagination Β
I'm sorry if this comment made no sense, but I was genuinely happy when I saw an artwork from you in my inbox even if it took me this long to comment

hehe thanks, and no worries i get what you mean!
yeah having the dudes purpose as ambigous is nice in some ways, but in terms of design im failing badly at getting the point across.
the idea was that the shack was an old explorer outpost (surprise surprise....) and hes setting off to do research or just have a look around.
i need to work more narrative into my paintings, and this wasnt really my best...
thanks anyway doing a lot of character/figure studies atm, you can check out my CD sketchbook if you wantΒ crimsondaggers.com/forum/threaβ¦

Man, great composition, the lighting really moves your eye around the frame effectively. Also, love the design on the rock formations!

That looks amazing, I love how you jazzed it up by have the vanishing point at an angle.

thanks! yeh thats useful to make things a bit more dynamic, having the whole scene at a rake or just the vp. i was planning on using more 3 point perspective in this but things didnt go to plan!
