i'd suggest that for beginners (those that are just beginning to develop their own style), it's quite useful to draw the whole iris (the colored part of the eyes, if i'm not mistaken) so as to see its directional angle inside the lids, then just outlining the visible parts to finish. this also helps as guide as where to put the 'second eyebrows', depending on how much the lids are covering the whole eye.
this had been quite handy to me for a while when i was just beginning originals. it might as well be fundamental (as it was for me before i got used to my own style).
but again, drawing is very subjective. they're just suggestions. ^^

true but some people have requested to learn how to draw and the best way of not just throwing them into the deep ocean like what we did last year, is to prepare them a guide this year. Anywayz, its LSE, we NEED lecture notes X___X cos we are used to and pampered that way [for most of us] They even do that in jap class X_X [run by the jap soc]
And besides, this is a guide meant for people who want to learn how to draw but have no idea what drawing is. So I have prepared the simplest method which would produce the best effect of an eye. [Cos some people can't even get the positioning of an eye right] A person who has no idea what perception and dimension is would go nuts if was thought something so advanced in such an early stage. 
I agree on your point that drawing is subjective. ^_^ And that, the new bloomed artists would have to learn themselves.
