With the outbreak of the third Terran-Cygnus war, Earth was determined to regain the colonies it lost in the first two wars. One particular system the Terrans had their eyes on was the Zarus system, A small system with only one planet (Large gas gaint) but has several extremely large asteroid belts and a kuiper belt filled with valuable minerals. Cygnus only stationed a single squadrons of ships there due to intelligence reports stating that most Terran fleets were being diverted elsewhere for a large operation.

Unfortunately for Cygnus, there methods for tracking fleet movements have been discovered and it turned out there particular methods although good at tracking large fleets as a whole, had problems tracking individual ships, even really big ones, as it was generally thought extremely risky to send a dreadnought out with only a few escorts. Thus while the rest of the 76th fleet headed away the flagship along with a few escorts managed to sneak away.

Thus the Zarus defense fleet was quite surprised when a Sovereign class Dreadnought showed up at their doorstep and made quick work of most of their forces. The Sovereign class was first designed in Second Terran-Andromeda war as respond to the Unity class but was completed after the end of the war. The ship had all it's guns positioned on a rotating ring, that at full power can complete a full rotation by the time the guns can reload twice and was also designed to be incredibly sturdy, being able to still work with 80% of it's mass destroyed. The ship also possessed secondary particle beam weapons and several batteries of newly developed long range plasma cannons.

Although mighty, a single sovereign would not be able to hold the system for long, and thus the Terrans instead mined the asteroid belt and had most of the system's infrastructure sabotaged or destroyed, undermining mining operation for a full year and together with multiple other operations, managed to seriously cripple Cygnus's logistics chain and slow their offensive down to a grinding halt.
