Description

While working on The Welcomer I realized that I have far more experience working with faces than I do with backs. I decided to find some reference and study on my weak point to try and develop a greater understanding of how some of those shapes work and intersect with each other and this is what flowed through.

In this exploration I was struck by how each figure uses their hand to support the other’s back. This was particularly appreciated because this format of support provides a tactile reminder of being in life together and that another person is there that cares. This paired with stepping up from the watery base of the pool felt expressive of how with support tasks which were previously buried in emotions beyond accessibility can open providing access to new flourishing.

I’d like to thank everyone in my life who provides support for my progress. Although my eyes may be focused forward, the gentle ease provided by you helps me hold things together enough to continue moving forward even when I feel like I can’t any more.
