Another piece that started as a study and then spiraled out into additional formats of expression. In my experience of painting, while things do get better over time there’s still an experience of loss where a gesture had read particularly well or a dynamic was expressed in an emotionally detailed manner.
There’s a desire to save before every stroke in case something important is lost. That desire to effectively bring back from the experience and share with others is a profound drive when I’m fortunate enough to be blessed with insight.
This piece has the figure integrated with a psychedelic background built out of herself. She holds a phone, taking a selfie in the awareness that it can’t capture the entirety of her, or what she experiences, but hoping that the little glimmers of what bleed through in her capture can help someone feel what she feels and grow in the ways she’s grown.
The desire to cultivate others to explore vistas beyond what they can articulate, giving them the confidence to express that which they don’t have perfect words for, which hasn’t been named and brought into the zeitgeist. Opening the vulnerability to struggle in communication around topics that are new or complex instead of requiring perfection to have a perspective.
