Description Trying this whole background thing again, this time without a HDRI. Instead, I simply used a HD sky background. Alas, it's still coming out blurry. I haven't touched a single goddamn thing in the Environment tab either. All default settings save for the Environment map obviously. I CLEARLY don't know what I'm doing in that regard - as usual.

At this point, I'm tempted to scale back down to 3Delight for a few more experiments. At least then it won't feel like I'm killing my poor laptop attempting (keyword there) to contribute/compete (LOL) to the wealth of amazing 3D art already on here on a regular basis when it takes 12-24+ hrs to render ONE goddamn thing in iRay on my inferior machine here.Β

In either case, back to the drawing board.Β

I suspect you might loading it in the environment rather than render settings.

In the render settings ---> Presets ---> All Files then scroll down to the one you want, that is the easy way, then go to editor and adjust your settings as you prefer. When I first dabbled with HD I was trying to load them in the environment and kept getting wonky results, not sure if you did that or not.

Under editor tab ---> All make sure Dome is On and you can increase the volume of light the HD produces with the --->Environmental Intensity slider.Β

The Dome Mode will effect how the HD appears, generally Infinite settings take longer to render, but the backgrounds look better.

You can manually load background HDRIs in under the --->Environment Map, but that can be a pain.Β

You can also manually unload the HDR image under theΒ Β --->Environment Map which leaves the settings but removes the image, useful if you are doing a scene with a background image (Loaded in the Other Environement!) but don't want weird reflections Β

Hmm.Β  You may need to tweak some of the render settings in the end, there are some default memory limits that are way too low, and as a result textures on clothing or figures suffer, it's possible the same thing could be happening with your backgrounds.Β  I don't know for sure, but maybe!
