Description
So this is the first work this year. Sitting tyrannosauroid Eotyrannus lengi from the early Cretaceous of southern England.
Eotyrannus is described from a single immature specimen, consisting of an incomplete and unconnected skeleton found on the Isle of Wight. It was a medium-sized predator (approximately 4 meters long), with strong arms and a strong snout with fused nasal bones, adapted to withstand the loads of strong bites. It hunted small and medium-sized animals, which it grabbed with its hands and held to inflict a killer bite. Eotyrannus occupied the middle point in the food chain, the apex-predator in which was the allosauroid Neovenator.
Since the skeleton was found in a fairly fragmentary and scattered state, it is difficult to create an accurate reconstruction of Eotyrannus. Hutt et al. (2001) reconstructed the dinosaur too long-legged, which was corrected in later skeletal reconstructions. Here I took as a basis the work of Scott Hartman: www.deviantart.com/scotthartma⦠I also picked up a more unusual angle for this work, as well as extensive plumage to hide some speculative body parts. I hope it turned out well.
