Description
Another work. This is the stegosaurid Kentrosaurus aethiopicus from the Late Jurassic of Tanzania. Yes, I finally drew a thyreophoran.

Kentrosaurus was described by E. Hennig in 1915 from the Tendaguru formation, famous for the sauropod Giraffatitan. Although a complete skeleton has not yet been discovered, many individual bones and body parts are known to allow a fairly accurate reconstruction of the animal. Kentrosaurus is much smaller than the North American Stegosaurus: the largest specimen reached 5.5 m in length. It is famous for its long spikes on its tail and shoulders. Interestingly, at first the shoulder spines were placed on the pelvis, but later finds of Chinese forms forced a revision of this reconstruction. Tail spikes were a terrible weapon: work of H. Mallison (2011) showed that the tail was mobile enough to deliver rapid strikes. The plates were small and obviously did not help to remove heat, as was supposed for a Stegosaurus. They gradually turned into tail spikes. Like all stegosaurs, Kentrosaurus was a herbivore, able to stand on its hind legs to reach tall vegetation. This individual is a male, attracting the female by vocalization (note the swollen throat).

This is my first reconstruction of thyreophoran in the last few years, and at first I found it difficult to display the proportions. I'm not used to drawing these dinosaurs. But the result was better than I thought. I especially liked the shadows. In addition, for a change, I decided to make a drawing in black and white. I hope that thyreophorans will appear more often in my gallery.
