This is a really awesome piece. I love how it's greyscale except from the ship lights, and the misty background seems really mysterious and alien. The cliffs off in the distance seem really foreboding, which make the piece quite eerie. Then, last but not least, the massive, xenomorph-looking alien on the rock looks really, really awesome. I like the design you used, because it looks scary enough for a movie, but also practical enough to maybe be real. I also think the size difference between the alien and the unsuspecting traveler underneath helps even more to make this an impactful piece. My only suggestion is that maybe it would be even better with just a couple more splashes of colour, but maybe not, that's just a suggestion. Anyhow, this is an amazing piece of artwork, and please keep up the good work! ^^

Thanks a lot for the critique, very appreciated
About the color you hit the nail somehow, i was quite thinking for a while if i should leave it completely grayscaled or not. In the end i didn't found a good explanation for place some subtle color specifically (at least it should have been plausbile why it is there) except for the ship so i left it as it was. Next time i might spent an extra round on that But i'm glad that you like it!

I was wondering if you could tell me how you achieved the rays of light coming from the ship entrance?

I select the area for the effect with a polygon selection tool, then i use a textured airbrush to paint in the effect. I do it this way because any 'ray' that you see is in natural light being reflect by particles in the air (normally you don't see a light ray, more its effect on surfaces when reflect). I paint this temporarly on an extra layer, maybe with a setting to 'add' or 'lighten' and afterwards i use a soft eraser to blur the hard egdes of the selection area. that's mostly it, i hope i canhelp with this tiny information otherwise you're welcome to ask more!

Originally i was thinking to only make a grayscaled image, but in the end i was using this subtle extra color for a focus.
