Catcher and I are always talking about how much more awesome we are because we don't fly unlike the overpopulation of pegasi and alicorns.

I know I shouldn't be taking it out on this artwork, cos it's fanTASTIC, and haters will say that it's none of my business, but I just absolutely despise people who make themselves 'pegasus/unicorn', or 'alicorn', if I am correct. Alicorns should be reserved for royalty, like such Trollestia and the Epic Luna. People making themselves alicorns shows that they cannot make a decision whether they should become an awesome pegasus or an epic unicorn or the original but still ever brilliant earth pony. And it also shows that they are trying to elevate themselves up to a higher level than the rest of the unicorn and pegasus and earth pony population. I hate the petty ones who think that they cannot decide between magic and flying, so thus take both in order to make their character much more outstanding. Well it won't work on me, and now I've finished my complaining.
That's five minutes of your life you won't get back, dear reader.

Even before MLP I thought that they were a bit mary-sueish. No offense.
While I was making Chesh I was torn between making her a pegasus or a unicorn because I refused to make her both. Went for unicorn in the end because I suppose she uses some kind of magic to be able to vanish and turn invisible. And I dunno, somehow I see it as if you're able to use magic; you can't fly and if you can fly, you can't use magic. But, that's just me.

I dont see them as being mary sue-ish. A lot of unicorn included fantasy worlds don't have unicorns as using magic. So outside the context of the worlds where they have spellcasting unicorns an alicorn would just be a visual choice. Good call with the making Chesh a unicorn if not an alicorn. The cheshire cat didn't really fly. turn invisible and teleport yes as well as some illusion projection.
My personal ponysona is a unicorn. Elemental magic is the focus really. Though Cresh would be an Earth Pony since he's more tech reliant.

Yeah, you're right. But more than often; unicorns are associated with magic or as magical creatures while it's not really ever mentioned that they can perform magic themselves or not. Like the unicorns in Harry Potter. They're considered magical creatures and I don't think we ever see or read any unicorns using magic; but we know their blood can provide inmortality. Though I do agree that there's sometimes unicorns and alicorns that are just made like that for the sake of esthetics and looking pretty. I mean, if a pair of big, magestic wings is pretty and so is a sparkly horn then of course both of them put together will be even more pretty.
Haha really I was iffy about making a pegasus/alicorn also considering I'm frightened of heights and since Chesh is my personal ponysona I think so would she. So flying wouldn't be much of a wise choice. xD; Though she does spend a lot of time chillin' on tree branches, much like the Cheshire Cat.
Nah, I'm cool with all kinds of ponies. Unicorns are obviously my favourites, though haha. The only alicorns that bother me a bit are the ones inside the MLP universe. Especially since the majority of OC ponies I've seen are either pegasi or alicorns. Hence this picture. xD Though I was mostly picking fun at the fact that there seems to be an overpopulation of flying ponies. Nothing personal, though. I know Thunder Crash is an alicorn; though from what I've seen I think he wasn't born with wings?

Right. That's why I call him a pseudo-Alicorn. He's actually a unicorn, who thanks to another pseudo-alicorn became a pseudo-alicorn. His wings are permenant, because it was a metamorphosis "spell" that was the special talent of the other unicorn.
Which is why Crash's cutie mark is a wing. Because he's a unicorn with a special talent for being able to fly. And the star behind the wing is the other half.
Basically the concept for him was a flying version of robot unicorn attack. But he needed the protection of magic in order to pull it off. Hence why he kinda needs to be an alicorn. But he's only one due to a loophole.
