Just thought I'd share with you guys how it's done on my end~I use:
- A pencil and sketchpad (For initial sketch)
- A scanner (To scan, duh lol)
- A mouse
- Adobe Illustrator (For lines and coloring)
- Adobe Photoshop (For shading and finalizing)
Then I post it and blah, blah, blah. lol
All-in-all, Queen Quail's piece took me roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete.

My mom's computer is pretty old but in awesome condition. I don't have a tablet either lol

lol i still need to update my software i have a crappy free paint program I found online XD my paper sketches are so much better, if all the pencil marks didnt annoy me id just submit my original sketches))

I don't use layers in Illustrator. In Photoshop, I only used 2 layers. One had the vector, the other had the shading. Any other layers in the pic were only BG, Ref colors, Ref names, and her name.
