Description
" 2 Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.3 And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another...
5 And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh."
This piece is based on a beast in Daniel 7. The bear represent Persia and the ribs are the nations it conquers which are Babylonia, Egypt, and Lydia. The languages from each of these nations is written on each rib.
In Daniel 2, there is a dream that corresponds to the one in chapter 7. It has a statue, and different parts of it represent different kingdoms. Persia is represented by a silver chest and arms. Look how much better it is compared to the old one. [link]
In Daniel 8 it mentions a ram with one horn higher than the other, and it is meant to represent Persia as well. The design on the top is found in a certain piece of Persian art. It resembles an Egyptian design, but it is different.
I reworked the hair on the back. I'm still not entirely pleased with it. The clouds look better though.
