Technical Data
Several secret ground combat tests in the Arctic Circle proved the A-1 type Rigel a poor machine, despite its recent success in fighting Geoid rebels in Mars. As a result, the Rigel's design is further refined in Heliadon's Siberian base to cope up with Earth's terrain and gravity—thus, the final production type model was developed.
Heavily based on the original design, the final production type Rigel incorporated new features, specifically designed for ground combat in Earth. Such include a reprogrammed auto balancer and additional shock absorbers; a third antenna for enhanced detection; and a heavier light composite armor. The final production type Rigel retained the A-type's five-way thruster, as it doubles as a space combat unit.
The larger M-50 rifle became the model’s standard hand-held weapon, though it is also compatible with the M-47 submachine gun. The final production type Rigel also features the M-2 offensive-defensive (OD) shield as does other Rigel variants. The shield mounts two anti-infantry machine guns and a thermal blade for close combat.
A general-purpose machine, the Rigel can also accommodate various other hand-held and mounted weaponry, as well as mission- and terrain-specific equipment.
