I'm not really into guns, but this is a beautiful image.

Congratulations on the new hardware!Β
Definitely diggin' your Colt. I'm not too terribly familiar with the gun (or gun terminology for that matter), but it does look very nice and very well assembled. Very nicely rendered too!Β
That said, it looks like the top of the cartridge is flat. Despite the smooth look of the indentations between each bullet casing. Maybe I'm just not seeing the same gradients because of the light intensity. Another render from a different perspective or reduced light intensity might make that clearer.Β
I'm also curious about the front section of the barrel (immediately past the cartridge area) that looks open. Is that supposed to be that way? I've always thought of the colt's outer casing being one solid unit. I could be mistaken, of course.Β

The fact that you used Iray will get you into Valhalla. Is this a high poly model? if so, whats the count at? better yet, can you shoot us a wireframe?

It is indeed a hi-poly with 3 turbosmooth iterations slapped onto eash part. Not sure of the polycount at the time of rendering, will let you know when I come back from work. But it used up almost 1GB of memory on the GPU, so I'm guesstimating around 5-8M polys altogether.
Irat is pretty damn awesome Β

Wow, very nice and nice PC by the sounds of it
Guessing the render time is quite a difference?
I love the detail on the (pardon me for not knowing the name) on that bit where the bullets go (chamber is coming to mind, not sure if thats the name though?).

it's a haswell based quad-core i7 CPU 2.4GHz, 24GB DDR3 RAM, 2xGTX 780's in SLI. An Alienware laptop
The rendering times are massively different from my old pc, which was a 2GHz dual-core with an old non-CUDA ATI graphics card.
The thingie you're talking about is called a drum magazine
Thanks for the kind words!

Ah nice, never went onto a dual core I was sadly still on a 1 core cpu back then and now ive gone to a quad core (few years back)
Its hard to go back xD.
Ah right haha was right off xD
