Description Copernicus station brief:

design concept:
the basic concept here is, space dock took, and I'm guestimating by looking at it, 15-20 years to build in orbit. this design is meant to be assembled onsite, in 5-10 years, approximately a quarter to half the time a full on space dock takes.

the basic concept draws structural inspiration from cloud city on bespin in starwars episode V the empire strikes back, and inspiration purpose wise from jupiter station in startrek.

basic info and history:
intended for a crew of 7000-10,000, and expandable depending on circumstances, the two classes designed, the Copernicus and Delphi classes were intended to be cheaper, faster, easier to build, and offer 75-90% of the capabilities of a full sized space dock class starbase.

the base design for both classes lacks a mid frame docking ring for starship berthing, since that is considered post deployment construction only.

to date, 35 of both classes combined have been constructed and deployed.

during the battle for earth in the dominion war, a delphi class in orbit of pluto earned recognition for managing to stall a good chunk of the invading fleet long enough for multiple task forces to mobilize and deploy to sol system, the starbase, Delphi outpost, sustained severe damage in the effort, but was later repaired to full operational status in the months following the incident.

unfortunately, she was later destroyed during the borg invasion of 2373, after managing to deal significant damage, and again delay an invading enemy long enough for defenses to be mustered.
