Description
Here it is. The painting I have been talking about. It has been a while, but this is what has been sitting on my hard drive for the past 7 months. Today I finally got around to finishing it.I'm very happy with the final product and I hope you guys enjoy it. If anyone feels like writing a little story go right ahead. You can interpret it anyway you want.

A return from a distant land, moving towards the light? I especially like the clouds...

Ooh! I got an idea!
See, she's looking out at the sea to return, right? That's cause she's actually a mermaid! Or some other brand of sea-folk. (Hence the turquoise hair.) And the flowers are for her lover's grave which she has to take there because he died and that's why she's returning. And the jagged rocks represent the hardships of living on dry land which she had to for... some reason or another. Yes, it's a perfect story! *schemes*
Yeah, anyways, excellent job, this is beautiful. Very realistic. :3

While I'm sure I don't have the right to criticize this, since it's beautiful, one thing is bugging me. The woman's hair is streaming straight back from her head, which implies a LOT of wind, but nothing else looks wind-blown. The water is very still, and her dress isn't moving. The lighting, however, is gorgeous.
It almost seems to me that the painting would be much better if the woman wasn't there at all-- she's kind of distracting.

holy sh*t good job!!! i love the red roses, very good contrast to the more neutral/dimmer colors, even though they are small they still add a little pop to an already beautiful painting. very good job.

yeah i'm not too keen on the reds, whoever said about that is right. thye do call a bit much attention, i think they jsut need toning down. And i'm not too keen on the girl either. I don't think she is quite up to the standard of the rest of the image. i also think it's a bit weird how it goes from almost looking like a painting (sky and sea), to looking like a cartoon (rocks and woman). but even so. both parts are done very nicely and are very very good. i love the brances on the bottom left. it's an interesting and amazing picture.

Her heart was in the sunset. The wind from the sea blew through her hair and clothes, and she wondered if the same wind had once filled his sails. The waves lapped the shore and she pictured them licking the sides of his boat. The song of the sea was peaceful and calming tonight, and every melancholy note it sang carried her spirit further out and farther away. The stars above her looked down on her love, the waters before her were at once enemy and friend. They had taken him away, and now, she prayed, were aiding his return...
its a sweet melancholy piece i could stare at all day

Very interesting to take a look at this one, and others have done a good job already of pointing out the great aspects of it.
My only question is, why is the woman's hair blown sideways, yet the flowers in her hand--and her clothes--are not? One would expect everything in the scene to be affected by a wind of that strength, rather than just the hair.
