Species Name: Guardius Nostrum (gar-DEE-us NOSS-trum)

Origins: The Guardius, as they are commonly called, were created by the Gods on the mortal plain originally as a "cure" for hellhounds, to create a rational, sane being in the place of rage-consumed beasts. They are the keys for Limbo wolves to enter the mortal realm, but this knowledge has been lost.

Diet: Carnivorous. Despite their personalities and godly appearances, they must eat meat to stay at full power and alertness. They can go for long periods, up to two months, without food, before they start to lose focus.

Sounds: The Guardius make typical canine sounds. They growl, snort, howl and bark just like any normal canine. When they speak, it is calm and soft. It is known to lull people into a calmed state that makes them non-confrontational.

Distinguishing Features:

Wings: Every single one of the Guardius have wings that match the color that takes over most of their bodies. They are fully functional and feathered, strong enough to break bones if a creature is struck with them. They are typically used for movement, but can also be utilized for battle if necessary.

Light: Each Guardius has their own personal light around them. It is very faint, but it is always there. It is like a small glow around their bodies that they eventually learn to manipulate. If this light is given to another creature that is harmed, it can heal them.

Healing: The only power that these creatures posses is healing powers. It is given through their light, and send into a creature, curing them of any inward or outward injury. It comes at a price, because the more light that it used, the more exhausted the healer gets. It is this healing gift that "cures" hellhounds, but at a price. To cure a hellhound, the beast must taste the blood of a willing Guardius (normally by a bite); this blood counters the rage and induces rational thought and feeling, however in allowing itself to be bitten, the Gaurdius will die.

Coloration: Guardius are all roughly the same color. They have lighter underbellies, usually a white or cream color. That fades into a gold on the top half of their bodies. Their wings match the golden color on their pelts. Their eyes are also all the same color. Between white and blue.

Reproductive Habits: Guardius have unusual mating habits. They have an elaborate courtship that involves lots of courting in the spring and summer. Then the female chooses her mate, and they join together in autumn. They find one mate for their whole life, and they only have one set of offspring. Always one boy, and one girl. They can continue to mate, but it will never yield offspring.

Temperament: The Guardius are very calm, collected creatures who are very slow to anger, for the most part. They will prefer talking it out to fighting, and discourage violence. Only when they have exhausted all other options is when they step up to battle, and they can hold their own against any wolf.

Life Span: The Guardius has a special kind of immortality. They are born, they live their life (roughly the span of about 20 years) and then they die, only to be born again several generations later.
