The Kingdom of Loango was a pre-colonial African state from the 15 to 19th century
in what is now the Republic of Congo.
At its height in the 17th century the country stretched from Mayombe in the north to almost the mounth of the Congo River.
The people spoke a northern dialect of the Kikongo language.
Now, it is a symbolic tradional-cultural institution recognized by the Republic of Congo.
After the death of King Moe Taty I in 2007, it appears there are two rival claimants to the throne of the Kingdom of Loango.
