Description
part 3 of my Power Rangers Atlantis Trilogy. It started with The Rise, then came The Fall, and now it is time for The Stand.
It has been nearly 10 years since the Power Rangers were defeated at the battle of Atlantis. Since then Emperor Ragnor's army, led by the ruthless General Lyron, has forged a path of Conquest across the globe. Though they were still losing, the forces of Earth had managed to slow them down quite a bit with the creation of the United Defense Force. In light of the destruction, the nations of Earth agreed it was time for a unified military in order to face global threats. And they seemed to be doing well. That is until the day the Atlantean Rangers returned. With nothing to match their power these corrupted Rangers exponentially sped up the Atlantean conquest. In response a secret project was devisedl Ava, the former Pink Ranger and only known survivor of the Battle of Atlantis, would head up a project to create the United Defense Force some Rangers of their own.
It took a few months, but the project was eventually a success. After experimenting with her own Morpher, Ava's team managed to create 3 new Morphers that are ready for trial testings, and one as of now unstable one. As her volunteers, Mallory the Red Ranger, Dante the Blue Ranger, and Elliot the Yellow Ranger Morph for the first time a sense of hope rises up among the lab. That is, until the proximity alerts begin to sound. Before anyone has time to react a hole is blown in the wall as the Atlantean Red Ranger is seemingly thrown through it. He is followed soon by the Black who appeared to be the one who threw him. There is no time to process however as a squadron of Jellies quickly pour in and begin attacking the Black Ranger. On instinct Ava Morphs and begins fighting the Jellies, her new Rangers following suit.
After a few minutes the Jellies dissolve as they have served their purpose of covering the Atlantean Red Ranger's escape. Ava assessed the situation; her facility destroyed, and years of research lost as most the computers were damaged in the conflict. But one thing stuck out to her, the Black Ranger was still there. As the UDF Rangers braced themselves for another fight, the Black Ranger unmorphed revealing an old ally, Remy.
Remy proceeded to tell Ava the tale of what how he spent the past decade. After the Battle of Atlantis Remy was stranded on the island. He spent years learning magic in order to give himself more power, corrupting his own Morpher in the process. Once he finally got off the island he began hunting General Lyron, leaving a path of destruction in his wake. Ava proposes a deal, offering him the unstable Purple Morpher and a position on her team of Rangers. In exchange they will help him in his revenge. Remy accepts, taking the Morpher and becoming the Purple Ranger.
A couple weeks go by, the UDF Rangers start to turn the tide of the war, character building moments are had, things seem to be looking up. That is, until the day an intelligence briefing elicits a visceral response from Remy. The UDF had managed to locate the Atlantean White Ranger's energy signal. And satellite imaging confirmed it when they see a video of the White Ranger as she unmorphs, revealing her identity to be Amara, daughter of Emperor Ragnor and Remy's old love. This revelation causes Remy's power to violently explode outward as he teleports away.
The rest of the team teleport soon after to the location of the White Ranger. Ava is surprised to learn that Remy was not there, but she soon forgets about that when Mallory suddenly realizes this was a trap. The Rangers are soon surrounded by many, many Jellies. Not only that, but all the Atlantean Rangers and even Emperor Ragnar himself are there. The UDF Rangers put up a valiant fight, but it is clear they are woefully unprepared. Just as all hope seemed lost, Remy makes his dramatic return. Already morphed into the Purple Ranger Remy reveals something in his hand, his Black Atlantean Morpher. He then says the words to Morph and his suit begins to deform and change into something new.
With the combined power of his two Morphers and the obvious confusion the transformation caused, Remy begins to efficiently work through the Jellies, carving a clear path to the Atlantean White Ranger. The other UDF Rangers seize on this opportunity and the tide of the fight starts to change. This clearly angers Emperor Ragnor, who begins berating General Lyron for his incompetence. What happens next is almost as shocking as Remy's new form. General Lyron, the Atlantean Red Ranger, turns to his emperor, and strikes him down. As Ragnar falls lifeless the Jellies begin to disolve. Lyron calls for the retreat and the Atlantean Rangers disappear in a rainbow of light columns.
Back at base the UDF Rangers, with the notable absence of Remy, begin to debrief what just happened. Command has labelled Remy as the "Rogue Ranger" deaming him a fugitive who stole UDF technology. However thanks to Lyron's betrayal, Emperor Ragnor is dead. And because he was the only one able to create Jellies, that means the Atlantean army is now nonexistent. All that remains are the rangers themselves, which command has already began the process of tracking. It was starting to look like the war will end soon.
After the briefing, Ava remembers something Remy said during the battle. She then sneaks off to a clearing on a cliff overlooking the ocean. There she sees a solitary figure, Remy, looking out at the sunset. Remy tells Ava that the cliff was his favorite place on Earth. In fact, he had planned to show it to Amara after they got off the island. He then dropped a bombshell on Ava, despite appearances the White Ranger couldn't possibly be Amara, because Amara died in his arms 10 years ago. Remy proceeds to reveal what happened to them during the Battle of Atlantis. He and Amara were engaged in combat with Lyron using their Zords. What they hadn't known was that Ragnor had rigged Amara and Lyron's Zords to explode. With the Zords gone, they engaged Lyron in hand-to-hand combat. During which Lyron managed to disarm Remy and makes a killing blow. But rather than hit his intended target, Amara had jumped in front of the attack to save Remy. Choosing to share in Remy's misery Ava started some revelations of her own. She told Remy the only reason she was even a part of the Atlantis expedition was because she was secretly having an affair with her professor, doctor Donald Reynolds. She then told Remy that Felix had in fact made it off the island with her, even helped her get the UDF Ranger project started. But then he got sick. He died just one month before the Morphers were finished.
In their shared grieving, Ava almost didn't notice her communicator go off. The UDF had located the Atlantean Rangers, not because they tracked them, but because they had just started an assault on UDF Command. Ava offered Remy her hand, asking for help "one last time". Remy took it, and the two of them teleported away to UDF Command. The Rangers found UDF Command in ruins, the Atlantean Rangers seemingly waiting for them. Lyron stepped forward, explaining that this would be the final battle to determine Earth's fate. And with that the fight began. Remy had made the choice to focus on the White Ranger out of anger that she would dare impersonate Amara. With the might of his combined morphers the Rogue Ranger was able to overpower her. And with a quick motion removed the White Ranger's Morpher. Remy then stood in shock at what he saw; the White Ranger was in fact Amara, just as she was a decade ago. Lyron began to laugh as he then revealed that "of course it's Amara, just not the one he knew". After her death Ragnor had cloned his daughter using the genetic template stored in his temple. In fact, all the Atlantean Rangers were in fact clones from a long dead era. Ragnor wasn't even the ruler of their people, he was a copy of a long dead court wizard with delusions of grandeur. In fact, it was Lyron that was the clone of the long dead emperor, and it was his right to lead his people once again. Enraged by this Remy looked at the White Morpher in his hand, and had an idea. Morphing Grid Energy began to flow from the Morpher into him as his suit once again began to transform. While this was going on, Ava engaged Lyron himself in combat while her fellow UDF Rangers fought the other Atlantean Rangers. It looked as though the Atlanteans and UDF Rangers were evenly matched and that there may not be a clear winner, when something strange happened. A strange energy began to fill the air. The combatants instinctively looked to find the source. The saw Remy, but some form of light was flowing out of him. A light that caused his suit to change colors. Which when finished erupted in an energy wave, demorphing him. As the energy wave spread out and reached the UDF Rangers, they found themselves re-energized. Not only that, but they were then easily able to overpower their opponents. Turning again to where Remy had been just a moment earlier, they found that both he and Amara were now gone. Enraged by this turn of events, Lyron began to drain the power from his Atlantean Rangers, causing them to fade away as their power flowed into him. With this new power Lyron began to grow and was effortlessly able to shrug off a combined assault from the Red, Blue, and Yellow Rangers. Leaving Ava standing alone against a now giant Lyron.
All hope had seemed lost as Lyron loomed over UDF Command. There simply was no way Ava could fight something that big. Looking around, she noticed she was standing in her old office. Grabbing a picture frame off the desk Ava looked at photo of her and Felix on their first day with the UDF. She apologized to the photo, and wished that her friend was there to help her. Almost as if to answer, the facility began to rumble. A large blast door just outside the wreckage had opened. Revealing within, a Megazord. Back when the UDF Ranger project first started, Ava agreed to handle the making of the Morphers themselves, but Felix had been working on the Megazord. He managed to finish before his death, and now Ava had a way to fight Lyron.
The Megazord proved more than a match for Lyron, easily able to outmaneuver him. When Lyron finally fell, a wave of relief fell over Ava as it hits her; the war is finally over.
