Internet at last! We had a thunderstorm here, and ever since then the WiFi just would not connect, so although I could log on, on my phone, I couldn’t post anything. I’ve had this picture finished for like two or three days, and I’m so happy to finally be able to share it.

I'm actually really proud of this, since I normally have trouble with even fairly simple shading, so something this complex was a real challenge. This is also the first full-body picture I’ve ever done completely digitally. Normally I do the base sketch on paper, as I have a hard time sketching with my tablet. So not only was this a really complex picture for me to do, but it was done 100% on the computer. That’s a big step for me.

Anyway, these are my two cat characters, Caius (left) and Scarlett (right). You guys might remember Caius from when I posted his original ref almost two years ago Yeah, he’s had a bit of a design change since then. I started to hate his old design very quickly after first posting it, and have been planning to use the solid black design for almost a year now. It just works better with him being a ghost and everything. And please don’t comment saying ‘Aw, I liked his old design better!’ because that’s really rude and inconsiderate, and I might eat your face Scarlett was originally going to be a calico, but I couldn’t resist the yin yang element of giving one character black fur and one white fur. And although I refer to them as ‘cat characters’, they’re basically just humans being drawn as cats, as this entire story takes place in the human world with the characters acting as humans. I just like drawing cats better than drawing humans. Anyway, Caius is a ghost and Scarlett is a witch (hence the weird eye colors). They can’t physically interact with each other, as well as being kept apart by circumstance, so that was the inspiration for this picture. I know that was probably the vaguest, most unsatisfying explanation of all time, but I just don’t want to give away the whole story at once. With Halloween coming up, I’m hoping I’ll get more inspiration to draw these two.
