Description Speed render of Kasumi.
After seeing Nodern03 test render I got wondering what would be my times so I also tried to replicate the effort.
Unfortunately, I completely forgot to change my default resolution to 1080 so it does not qualify to compare our results.
Anyway, I decided to post my render result, and here are the numbers;
Resolution 3840X5120, 2500 samples, custom materials, all parts SubDiv 2, render time 2 hours.

This is Kasumi, she always is.

Kasumi is going undercover at a casino own and operated by Victor Donovan but without him there. This sexy bunny is always ready to throw down when needed.

Damn, you said it (sexy), now I should rethink and probably tag this render with the Mature rating. Otherwise half of the DA visitors will get indigestion and brain tumor.

That would be a very unpleasant sight to behold to witness DA visitors having those two conditions. But yeah to be serious, sometimes people can get a bit overboard with rushing to report renders and comics that do not warrant the mature tag at all.

I would not say that. I doubt any Olympic game is to gain viewers but to see who is faster, better and stronger. Same is here.

Cash4488 In reply to xVladTepesx [2018-08-14 14:13:53 +0000 UTC]

There is a double edged sword at play here. The faster you can crank out images the more people will come to see them. This can have a negative effect though as you could create viewer saturation. Focus on quality rather than release speed and you will always have viewers wanting more.

xVladTepesx In reply to Cash4488 [2018-08-14 16:30:26 +0000 UTC]

My goal always is quality. I do not rush to release more, specifically, we all have the real life beside this hobby.

That's true, but if you really want speed and a way to save time then you could always splurge on a monster rig to help with rendering.

I think it was lost in translation, I do have a monster rig. render speed is not my problem.
Creating a quality scene is the goal.

Are you going to be upgrading to the new 20 series? Apparently it will be announced next week so we may get to see the 2080.

Fortune? That would be a very small fortune I would not survive a week. The card cost only $700 USD. (never available in stock, I have the original made by NVIDIA)
As of GTX 1180, I have the insider look and I am not sure if I need it on my old rig.
More CUDA is nice and surely 16 GB memory is better than 11 but I do not think it will help much with Blender 2.79. It has its limitation and I had moments where Blender simply quit on me only because it could not handle all this memory even after GPU still has plenty reserved and unused.
What I am trying to say the 2.79 version of Blender not ready to run on the 1080 Ti, not to mention the new upcoming GPU.
But for gaming, it does make sense, time will tell, most likely I will order this new beast the moment I receive a message from NVidia and only because they will run out of stock forever the moment this card is released.

In my country that is A LOT of money. Considering the exchange rate including tax/vat, that is someones salary for the month thus it is a fortune.

Indeed your card is only as good as the application you intend on using it with and if that version of Blender cannot utilise more than a certain amount of video memory then a new GPU will do you no good.

I have an old card and am more into benchmarking so I am in great need of one of the upcoming cards especially since the rumour claim they will deliver 4K at 140fps.

xVladTepesx In reply to Cash4488 [2018-08-14 20:58:53 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, did not know S. Africa pays VAT.
Guess we are lucky to skip this tax.
4K @140FPS is nice, but you still need a beast CPU as well, plus the monitor that can handle this.
My Predator X34 G-Sync can only run up to 120 FPS. So 140 is overkill. At least with my setup.

This country sucks HUGE balls! Everything is overpriced and almost nothing works, people are struggling just to afford bread. I bet with the big salary you are earning you could simply walk in here, flash the cash and women would come running towards you.

Yes, for what I do I generally prefer core speed over core count so something which I can OC to death would work well for me. You might need more workers so twelve cores might suit you.

My BENQ monitor support 144 but it's not 4K

xVladTepesx In reply to Cash4488 [2018-08-15 15:37:14 +0000 UTC]

I am not really familiar about S. Africa cost of living, but here in States, specifically in NY region this is nothing for a card since the cost to have an apartment is very high, therefore the salary is also high to compensate.
You've heard of Cost of Leaving is vary in different regions. In some places, a house would cost you over a million and absolutely identical house in another place would be around 100 thousand or even less.
So, if you stay in such expensive place and work somewhere around the salary would be also to support this high Cost of Leaving.
However, the price of computers and cars is the same no matter where you go. I would say someone in the Mississippi region would not afford this, but another person doing the same kind of work who is from NY or from California would not even blink and get this car or computer.

BENQ are good monitors.

In my country everything is unreasonable. People earning high salaries get the holy shit taxed out of them leaving them with just about half of what they earn. We have to deal with a corrupt government who openly steals from the people they are meant to serve always finding ways to pocket peoples' income and the populace seeing no return benefit. Believe me when I say you will NOT survive in this place as it is far too stressful and outrageous and one of the many reasons I myself cannot enjoy existence as I have to chase money for survival without really having the opportunity to use it for personal enjoyment. Be thankful you don't have to exist in a place like this, get on your knees and pray to the Almighty if you have to, do whatever as long as you never have to experience this.

BENQ has served me well, but now I really need to work my ass off to get the RTX 2080 as I know NVIDIA will price those cards through the roof.

xVladTepesx In reply to Cash4488 [2018-08-15 18:51:51 +0000 UTC]

Well, the RTX is the game changes since it is Real Time Raytracer and this is very important in Blender.
I am definitely getting it. And think how can I sell my 1080Ti.

As of survival, my friend, you have no idea where I  have been. I survived the Asian desert, Siberian wasteland, Polar freeze and oppressive government regime with some time behind grates for being a freethinker,
I think my life right now is a reward for anything I survived before. Trust me, I started at 0.

I am so interested in seeing ray tracing in action that is what makes the new cards so attractive.

There are people who would love to attempt surviving in those areas. What we go through is no justice system, the criminal is always right and almost always is considered the victim. Rape, murder and theft is a daily game with children being forced into becoming soldiers for gangs. Ethnic groups create their own languages and you are simply meant to understand what these individuals are saying. Land gets taken from people who have been living there for decades with said property owners left looking for new homes. Public transportation is nonexistent as it gets destroyed weekly. Folks are too scared to vacation or leave their homes in general due to robbery, even the police are in on acts like these. I have neighbours who refuse to allow their children to play in the street in fear of them being kidnapped, raped, killed and their body parts sold to the local witch doctor. Grand Theft Auto is a kids game compared to the reality of this country.

Haha! Well, actually I was testing out a new build for 2.79. Wanted to see the difference in image accuracy with regards to SSS. And holy shit, in the Helena test render I did with the experimental build, it halved my render times  to about 18 minutes and is physically more 'accurate'. Creates more noise though. So in the end more samples may be needed.

xVladTepesx In reply to Hypster83 [2018-08-13 14:07:11 +0000 UTC]

Simple, use a blurred image and good DoF in camera. Mine was F5.6, For the dynamic effect, have some mask texture (black and white) and mix the background under the mask. Here is the sample of nodes. Your mask file in black and white should have some dynamic lines. create one in PS, use the brush and all white strokes will be your dynamic lines.

You should pay attention to the description, this picture was rendered in super-resolution, this is why 2 hours.
The regular 1080 HD is only 4 minutes to render, I verified that by running N7 Rose first blender on my PC.

Very old one, originally created for Skyrim but I keep updating it with new parts every year, except CPU and Mobo. this PC already survived 3 GPU and 2 memory sets, as of HDD they were slowly converted to SSD.

Here is my latest CPUID (from CPU-Z) validation

CPU Name Intel® Core™ i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz Overclocked to Frequency 4223.79 MHz (41 * 103.02 MHz)
Mobo ASUS Sabertooth Z77
Memory 32768 MB G.Skill Sniper Dual channe l running on XMP 1.3 2400 overclock
Graphics original founder edition by NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti (GP102) @ 139 MHz
Sound ASUS Sonar Essence STX with 192/24 Full duplex HD
Storage Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB X 4

Screen #1 Acer G-Sync X34 P (ACR054F)  34.2 inches (86.9 cm) / 3440 x 1440 pixels @ 30-120 Hz
Corsair Hydro Liquid Cooling H110i
Case Thermaltake GT Level 10
Microsoft Windows 10 (10.0) Professional 64-bit

As you can see it is a bit outdated, however, even after 7 years it still knocks socks off all modern games at max settings.
Currently playing FFXV, AC Origins, Tomb Raider on max settings. I am sure it has 2 more years of life in it. As of the Blender Cycles, you see my results.
Once the new TES VI would show up on the horizon I will build probably a better machine. For now is it still good.
