“A fair fight. If you win, you and your friends go free, but if I win…” his gaze darkens as waits for you to finish your proposition, “you promise to turn yourself in. Does that sound fair?”

He makes a ‘tch’ sound but doesn’t answer, but the wire that whizzes past your head and his form coming at you is more than enough. You thread yourself to his side of the wall, leaping, and meeting him midair. With blades clutched in either of your hands, steel meets steel, cancelling their counterparts out.

The momentum pushes you back, as it does to your opponent, but you both come at one another again once your foot touches gravel. Gripping your sword backhand, you whirl to meet him again, but just as before, the attacks leave you and the mysterious thug at a standstill.

If you want to win, you’re going to have to outmaneuver him.

Your form is akin to an acrobat as you weave yourself between, behind, and above the broken walls. The stranger stares up at you with uninterested eyes, calculating your every move. He takes the time to reload his blades with fresh ones, seeing as the clashes had worn the previous ones out. You do the same, drawing a new pair, before you come down at him from above.

Again, your blades meet his, but this time, instead of both blades opposing his twin pair, you apply as much pressure as you can with one blade. With your other arm, you knock his wrist aside, forcing the blade out of his arm and clattering to the ground. Your other arm pushes the first blade downward, leaving him wide open.

Your second blade rests at the tip of his throat, and you see a flicker of surprise across his visage before it quickly vanishes.

Before you can leave a slit, he knocks your arm out of the way, causing you to drop the blade and his foot digs into the other to keep it stabilized. He brings his arm around to point his blade at you, but just as he had done, you do the same. Performing a backflip, you use a leg to kick his weapon away, drawing your blade from the ground so that it is repointed at him, but in the timespan you had done that, he has reloaded and is knocking your blade out again.

You lose balance as his foot sweeps under you, and had it not been for your quick reflexes, you might have lost.

With both parties lacking gear to attack the other with, you have no choice but to go for the weapons lying on the ground. He does the same, and as you both whirl; him one way and you the other, in a full arc, his blade rests at the side of your neck, just as yours rests against his.

Despite the situation, you slightly lower your arm, prompting him to do the same.

When you’re sure he won’t do anything, you lower your blade completely and throw it off to the side. A small smile curves at your lips, and despite his hardening glare, he tosses aside his blade as well.

“It looks as though we’re at a standstill. What do you propose we do?”
