Is the new Space Battleship Yamato 2199 anime a direct to video or dvd series?

It is showing first in Japanese theaters then like a month later is released on DVD and Bluray. So far episodes 1 thru 6 have been released on 2 discs, Vol 1 and Vol 2. Vol 3 hits Japanese theaters in October and will be on disc late November. The discs are currently only for sale in Japan, but there are several resellers that will ship to the US, although it is quite pricy. The discs do have english subs.

I'm not sure about TV, I think they may show it on Japanese TV as well. There is no word if it will be released in the US... insiders say that the chances are slim.

It is called Yamato 2199, and the first 2 dvd/BR discs are available in Japan only. I think you can order it from Amazon Japan, but it is pricy. Check out www.starblazers.com for more info.
