The day was dark and dreary, and the Khamsin horses were unhappy about it — all but one. The huge stallion stood out from the slender, graceful desert horses like a crow among falcons, his predatory grin cinched shut by a special strap on his modified show halter. His handler, Nathan, murmured to him, trying to keep the powerful Nightmare from doing anything rash.

Karrion wasn't accustomed to standing still for so long, especially not in the company of other horses, and he showed his boredom by spinning his orbs in menacing spirals and loops. It was an impressive sight, even for those used to his intimidating appearance and demeanor. His coat gleamed a deep, bloody red, and his mane and tail had been brushed until they fell long and orderly, and he was acting deceptively well-mannered.

All in all, he looked like the epitome of a healthy and perfectly proportioned Disturbed Nightmare. To Nathan, Karrion was unquestionably the best-looking equine in the show, but he knew that the monster horses were not everyone's cup of tea. Still, he hoped that the judge would see the grace behind the menace — the beauty in the beast.
