EDIT3: THIS POST IS NOW OUTDATED ♥ I will no longer answer questions on this post.

EDIT2: GUUUUYS, PLEEEEEEEASE read through the other comments. I´m 99% sure that your question has been asked AND ANSWERED before.  EDIT: Not EVERYONE has been given this future yet it seems.
It can take up to 14 days for your money to end up in paypal.

I don´t know if many people know about this or even how to do it..~♥
THAT´S WHY IM GOING TO TELL YOU!

How to take point commissions and still earn REAL FRESH MONEY!

What you need:

Be a Premium Member BETA TESTER
Have a Paypal

That easy!

However if you are going to do this dA takes a part of the money you earn. Around 20 Points on Every 80 points [I think]
Which makes you earn only 60 points even if you sell for 80.
That´s why I suggest you think that 1 Dollar = 100 points
Instead of 80, that way you won´t lose anything on it. *w* ~

How to do it!

You need to upload your picture to Sta.sh

Then Click on the Uploaded picture in your Sta.sh.
It should look something like this.

Then you click on the select CATEGORY
It is above the description

Then you should end up HERE

SCROLL DOWN

Until you come to THIS

Here you see down to the left "Generate earnings"
And beneath "Sell downloads as premium content"
Select THAT BOX

And it will look like this!
Here you decide how much to sell your picture for.
As I said dA "takes" 20 points/ 0.20 $ so I suggest to think that 1 $= 100

If you are selling a piece that is a commission for example I suggest that you crop the picture to the extreme or something until the person has Bought it!
OR make a picture beforehand that says "PAY FOR COMMISSIONS HERE"
You can always change how much it should cost, so you can change it for every commissioner

That way the Da points come to use again for real purpose!
HOWEVER
You cannot withdraw your money to PayPal until you have earned at least 5 $

How do I see my earnings?

SIMPLE!

You go to this box. And down to the right you can see "MY EARNINGS"
Click there!

AND.......... VOILA!

HOPE YOU FIND THIS USEFUL GUYS!
I just figured this out as well, I hope I haven´t taken anything wrong or explained it wrong!
If so please correct me!

A-and I´m not good with HTML stuff, so sorry if the pictures are small TAT ~♥

HAVE A LOVELY DAY

I got a note from Deviantart saying that I can't cash out points.

So does this not work anymore?

Xiaooyu In reply to HinamoriOfficialAmu [2013-12-20 16:08:49 +0000 UTC]

no, it still works. but the points you get from donations would be only used inside deviantart for deviantart purposes.

only the "earnings" through commission widget and buying prints will cash out i believe.

i was wondering, would one be able to make a profit by fanarts?

or will it ahve to be completely original art in order for one to sell them?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

ArcherKasai In reply to FireGemini [2013-09-26 23:00:16 +0000 UTC]

as a rule DA doesn't let you sell fanarts at all, since you don't own the rights to the characters, it can cause backlash for you and for them :3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FireGemini In reply to ArcherKasai [2013-09-27 07:31:51 +0000 UTC]

how about commisions? is that also not allowed?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ArcherKasai In reply to FireGemini [2013-09-27 07:54:00 +0000 UTC]

it depends on how technical you want to get. DA says you can't sell fan artwork on their site to cover their own asses, but most people do fanart commissions all the time. This goes down to "who owns the piece? The creator of the character, or the creator of the artwork?"

I could go into the massive details on this if you want, but the general rule is that the artist owns the artwork, while the character creator owns the character, simple no?

SO! It comes down to personal morals

1) are you okay with making money off of someone else's ideas? (generally, people do this all the time, so it shouldn't be an issue)

2) Are you asking first? Sometimes it's better to do so, even if the answer's "No"

3) Are you okay with other people making money off of your ideas? (Again, shouldn't be an issue, as people do it all the time)

4) Are you okay with other people making money off of your ideas without asking/crediting you? (you shouldn't be, that's why you always AT LEAST credit the creators)

5) Where are you getting the sources from? Generally fanart of popular stuff (mlp, dc or marvel, things like that atm) is a much better choice to sell fanarts from, partially because people already know they like/want them, and partially because using a character from a less-known artist without asking is looked down upon.

Again, I have to reiterate, that no matter WHAT you do, ALWAYS credit WHOEVER needs credited, images you used for poses/reference (there is a FINE line here for when you don't, but I like to scroll around google and just get a general idea, obviously you don't have to credit google for things like that, and if no image had a HUGE role in helping with the piece, generally it's ok not to credit, but as I said, it's a VERY fine line, always check the rules posted with the images )

Well, that was long and drawn out! hope it helped a bit :3

um, if you put 100 points instead of 80, to the people down there confused, you do lose 20 points BUT 80 points is already equal to 1 dollar.r

Im a bit confused. So are you telling us to put 100 pnts instead of 80? But if we put 100, we still lose 20 pnts right? :<

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BabySponge178 In reply to AdmirenKiwi [2013-08-07 14:03:39 +0000 UTC]

 yes !

No matter what price you put in for point commissions, you lose 20 points due to deviantart.

If you were to put in 80 points, deviantart would take your 20 points, and you would end up with 60 points, instead of 80.

According to this points to money calculator ( charfade.deviantart.com/art/De… ), 100 points equals to a $1.25, and 80 points equals a $1.

So really, if you were to sell a commission for 100 points, and someone paid you through that new commission widget or the "sell downloads as premium content" on a deviation ( this feature is shown in the journal ) , you would lose 20% of the 100 points from your profit ( 20 points ) due to deviantart's regulations and all. You are pretty much losing 25 cents in real money, and ending up with a dollar, or 80 points to be exact!

That's just the way it is.

um I hope this helps a bit???? u v u

( or at least helps someone else too !! )

JelArts In reply to BabySponge178 [2013-08-16 18:00:48 +0000 UTC]

You don't lose 20 points for EVERY price. You lose 20 points for every 80 points you make. So, if a price was 160 points, you would lose 40 points. (I'm not sure if you know this already lol)

This is just what I gathered, so sorry if it's wrong.

"Premium content; Earn money by seeling aditional downloadable content", is that it? Then I atleast get to a "generate earnings" page, like the one in this journal x)

I did however find out another way of doing it, by using my other account to "request a commission" to my main account ^-^

Yes that should be it.
Having a second account is a bit complicated and time consuming, I'm so lazy
I hope they will add a feature to transfer points to money more easily!

xShadilverx In reply to Drayuu [2013-05-19 13:43:21 +0000 UTC]

Awesome ^-^
I created another account where I submit commissions(so that they won't take up to much space on this account) sooo my other account is actually useful x'D

Yeah, I do to...:/
But I guess that DA really doesn't want to loose too much money...
Also, even though it sounds unfair, I actually think that it's okay/makes sense that only premium members can transfer points to money. Yes, it's sad for the people who don't have premium membership, but I see why DA would do it(considering they need the money from premium memberships to keep their site going)

That's a good technique! The only bad point is the 20% loss for fees, which is a little high in my opinion! It can still be a good little income

Hey I have an another idea to convert your points into real money..... Just earn points as much as you can... after having enough points make another account and donate all your money to that... and after that from that account commission yourself and from the same procedure as you've mentioned we will get the real money... so it's like commissioning yourself... I hope you are getting me.. ^.^
And by the Thanks for sharing this..

Well from what I understand you need to have a Premium Membership to be able to do this apparently.I done it before when I still had a Premium and it takes 14 days for the points to withdraw which is a real bummer > . < so I don`t really like this system..
