Description Dashing Dottie was a popular advertising campaign on the Long Island Railroad. The dashing commuter is a common site along any public transportation system, but to my knowledge no system ever capitalized on the concept in their advertising. There was also a "Dashing Dan", but Dashing Dottie is my favorite. I've given her a little bit of an upgrade and added the PRR keystone to indicate the Pennsylvania Railroad heritage as well as upgrading the fonts yet keeping with the retro feel.

I suspect today if you were to do a modern version, Dottie would be waiting, not dashing in tight jeans, a belly shirt, Gucci bag, matching shoes, iPod, sun glasses and attitude...

The oldest American railroad still using it's original name. I'm actually surprised, but the LIRR actually pre-dates the UP!

Yep. No surprise here, the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Long Island Rail Road were both around before the UP, but the LIRR is older. I always like the UP logo.

Very cool! Due to the season... the song "Run Run Rudolph" came to mind. Shows just how strangely my mind works huh.

Nicely done. And I think you're right about what Dottie would look like today. I've seen women waiting for the train to go shopping, and that' just what they look like.

Thanks! Yeah, I see them too, another feature for the modern female commuter, maybe going to art school or college is the backpack. I'm going to try and come up with something. Oh, and a cell phone!

It still is "the route of the dashing commuters".

You should see Penn Station NY during rush hour! It's like a madhouse on the LIRR concourse.

That's cool that they still call it that!

I'll bet, it's also good to know that the LIRR is still a viable transportation system.

If I remember right, LIRR carries the highest numbers of passengers daily then any other commuter railroad in North America.

Well LIRR was acquired by PRR in the early 1900's. Any photos of LIRR steam locomotives you will find a PRR herald on the point.

The old Pennsy G5 4-6-0's was know as the Pittsburgh Commuter Locomotive and were pioneered here, but they really made a name for themselves on the Long Island! Those G5's became synonymous with the LIRR. I have a nice little book at home about the G5's on the LIRR. They were loved by the crews and the commuters alike. There was one thing in the book that really says it all about the Long Island and her road crews, they were called "Speed Merchants", you don't get a nickname like that for nothing! I would have loved to have seen the Long Island back then.
