Description
First in, last out. The Malazan army seems heavily influenced by the Roman military complex, so I tried to base his armor off a traditional Roman foot soldier. I think I may have made him too much of a stud, but let me know what you guys think!Feel free to check out some of the other steez I've made for the series!

The man in the lead – a sergeant by the torque on his arm – came up to Tattersail. Set deep in a lined, exhausted face, his dark grey eyes searched hers dispassionately. 'This one?' he asked, turning to the tall, thin black-skinned man who came up beside him.
This man shook his head. 'No, the one we want is over there,' he said. Though he spoke Malazan, his harsh accent was Seven Cities. The third and last man, also black, slipped past on the sergeant's left and for all his girth seemed to glide forward, his eyes on Hairlock. His ignoring Tattersail made her feel somehow slighted. She considered a well-chosen word or two as he stepped around her, but the effort seemed suddenly too much.

She shuddered involuntarily as power buffeted her senses. She drew a sharp breath. He's a mage. Tattersail tracked the man as he joined his comrade at Hairlock's side, striving to see through the muck and blood covering his uniform. 'Who are you people?' 'Ninth squad, the Second.' 'Ninth?' The breath hissed from her teeth. 'You're Bridgeburners.' Her eyes narrowed on the battered sergeant. 'The Ninth. That makes you Whiskeyjack.'

I believe the one Erikson means with the third and last man being also black, is actually Kalam. Because as far as I know at that point the only 2 black characters in Malazan to begin with (except for Rake, but that's a different shade of black) are Quick Ben and Kalam. He also seemed to glide forward despite his girth, Kalam is described as a guy who is way too buff for an assassin normally speaking, yet he still is an assassin.
The sergeant comes up to Tattersail as the first of the three, Tattersails eyes narrow back on the sergeant after the realization who they are. Whiskeyjacks skin tone is not mentioned in this passage.

process of elimination, there where four men, WJ Kalam QB and Fid. the only non black in the squad is Fid ( as he is Falari, as stated in the bonehunters).........
and do not forget that all dal honese are black, including traveller; kellanved; Barathol and many more. For me that is one of the attractions of the series, it avoids the trope of the stalward blod blue eyed farmboy traveling to the mountain to defeat a great big evil.
