Here's some fan art I made for Joe Abercrombie's masterpiece, The First Law.Above are the most dangerous men in the northern Circle of the world. They're an infamous band of badass viking/barbarian types led by the infamous Rudd Threetrees, formerly led by Logen Ninefingers. I tried to tangible-ize what I though these characters looked like and what they might wear in a spring/summer climate.
If any of you guys enjoy gritty fantasy or anything A Song of Ice and Fire-esque, you absolutely have to read this series! Hands down my favorite books of ALL TIME (contested only by the Abercrombie's other novels).
And as always, lemme know what you think! Are they similar to your version of the characters? What's different?

This is perhaps the most amazing portrayal of these guys, and completely in line with the books themselves. I mean, they don't look lofty and proud and noble because they aren't - they're a bunch of tough men, hardened killers, and there's precious little noble in that. Only perhaps, I'd have expected Tul Duru to be more heavyset

What I find funny is how a lot of their (especially Logen's) other portrayals seem to fall exactly in where the author explicitly said they aren't, i.e. the sort of noble barbarian stereotype.

Which is everyone's favourite out of the people on the Bloody Nine's hitlist, while also Logen's friends? Personally I like Grim

Grim was also my favorite, due to his lack of dialogue and badass archery skills, but I will always think Black Dow was the most entertaining!

Interesting. I've seen this picture before and dig the larger version of Black Dow but for some reason I always imagined him as a tall, lanky, crazy mofo with a thin, contorted face haha

Well, I don't think such a man would become a king in the North because you need more bulk to fight in their style

I imagined Black Dow and Dogman look different. Maybe I just went for the more stereotypical types, like Rudd, Tul Duru and Grim on this picture(theyre quite stereotypical). I imagined Dow to look bigger because he looks like a modern nerdy pdychopath on this picture
