Description
I got a new body (t3i) for Christmas and I look forward to shooting more with it! I especially love Av mode on it. In the meantime, here's one of my favorite shots from November.

Yup, you feed me fish or I bite your head off! LOL. I've often wondered what goes through the head of a preforming Orca. I mean, it;s like an elephant, it must know it can totally squash the 'trainer' if it wanted to.
I was at one show where one of the dolphins had a nursing baby. The baby wanted to nurse, so the whole show had to stop for mom and her kid. The other dophins wouldn't perform either. It was like, "Silly human, go away." After she was done, the show went on normally, but late.

That's cool! Yeah It's interesting to consider the possibilities of what they're thinking.

Yeah what said is right. Plus, Orkid has a unique teardrop shaped eyepatch and head area, so it may look that way lol.

Why are people assuming i'm stupid and just 'don't understand Orca face structure and markings?. Good grief!
I have loved Orca since a young age, I've watched many documentaries growing up, know all about Lolita, Morgan, Tikilum, Keiko etc...I was reading her EYE in this photo..which is lidded and looking down/away from the trainer.

Just the way the the face is formed. Bottle nose dolphins are popular because the look like they're smiling. It's a mistake to infer our own signals and expression to animals. Dolphins can be quite nasty if they have reason to be. Tail slapping, which looks like fun to humans, is a sign of aggression or annoyance. If you don't get it, things can escalate. ^_*

I was reading the eye - as I know dolphins don't have human face musculature, you cant read it that way. She is looking down and away from the trainer who in contrast is a comic exaggeration of 'happy'. Dolphins are capable of feeling emotions though, it is documented and proven. Not all people are ignorant or unknowing about dolphins/Orca

Nice. We're a bit scared to get that close with ours right now, especially with the lens I like to use for One Ocean. I use a 70-200mm with a x1.4 multiplier.

We could do that. But then I wouldn't be able to get shots of Tili when he does it. We've been standing at the very top right under the video booth. I get some really nice shots up there during the show. Just hate it when people raise their arms or stand up when the orcas come on to the slide out . Sometimes I can't crop them out.

Ugh I hear you. People do it all the time and it's annoying! Especially when they stand up to take pictures on their phone. My friend edited a video that I think is pretty accurate, and funny: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUEyfg…
