180 million years ago, in Germany, a Mystriosaurus laurillardi rests on a beach.

This piece was inspired by an interesting study performed on the lifestyles of the extinct teleosaurids, aquatic crocodylomorphs from the Jurassic period. Despite being previously regarded as largely marine reptiles, seemingly they were much more diverse. Apparently, Mystriosaurus was a brevirostrine generalist, inhabiting lagoons and estuaries, and therefore perfectly capable of going back on land.
