Description
Ahh hello! So, recently I was whining about not having photoshop, but I just figured out I can have the sort of style I want just in corel painter essentials! So, its not a dynamic pose or anything, I started the piece just for practice, but I liked the way it turned out.
Why is she holding a stop sign? Well, recently I thought it would be cool to draw a post-apocalyptic warrior who fights with a stop sign. And I know, the background sucks, haha!

Rad! Reminds me of Lara Croft, she does. Lara would kick trash with a stop sign.

haha yeah she kind of does! what do you think of the coloring style (ignoring the clothing) I tried a new technique on the skin and the quality is sort of bad on DA, but I think I'll try and perfect that method. Anyways, I just wanted it to look more 'ainterly' so tell me what you think!

Now I'm going to look at stop signs as genius weapons.

Okay, but not as good as I want. I work the next three days and I want to do at least two more pages of figure drawing and six more drawings/pages of sketchbook and I would be satisfied. However I have to currently spend my time studying for an art history class. I'll get it done enough, but hopefully they like what I have.
How about you?

things are going along nicely. I'm planning on turning in my walk cycle, which I got a lot done for that today. My figure drawings are ok, and I definitely do not have as many pages of sketchbook as you do.
I finished that list of top 10 things viewed recently today. Still have to type up 5 story ideas and the cover letter.
How are you turning in your figure drawings? with the originals or shrunken copies?

I'm doing originals, not sure how they expect me to turn this all in, but yeah, I'm doing big newsprint size. I still need to do the written stuff. I'm going to have a hard time with the 5 story ideas, too many of mine are super messed up horror junk and I doubt they would appreciate that.
Well your sketchbook stuff I've seen is ace. I would be shocked if you didn't get in. You are the best I have seen applying...from the few I have spied on from blogspot.

I think I heard that large folders are available in the BYU bookstore? I'm gonna check that out.
haha, with the stories just think of inanimate object having sentient thoughts. That seems to be a favorite in animation.
hey thanks man! but I dont think a sketchbook alone will be a guarantee...my animations are not that good, and I'm not too great with figure drawing either.
good luck to you! who have you been looking at on blogspot?

Well please let me know if those folder things end up working and are big and cheap.
Oh brother. Modesty is the innocent version of lying. I'm sure your figure drawings are good.
I spy on everyone in animation I can find. There are a couple that I know are applying and its nice being able to see what you are up against. Don't really know their names.

ahh well I couldnt find any folders...this whole thing has got me stressed out. I guess I'll just take pictures and print those out.
No no no, figure drawing has been tough for me because its a whole new medium and process of drawing that I've had to get used to. And with it being 50% of the app. I'm rather nervous.
I guess I've been spying as well...I recently got a blogspot thing and I've been rummaging through peoples stuff there.

What's your blogspot name?
Hey I got a big art folder thing at Roberts, asked for the 40 % off coupon up front when I checked out so it only cost 8 bucks. I like it because I can put my figure drawings and my sketchbook inside.

its on my DA profile page, or at least it should be.
Thats great advice! problem is I already took photos and printed those out for my figure drawings. I actually like how those look better than the originals, so I'm satisfied.
I will admit, I am gonna miss my sketchbook. I think I only have about 35 pages :S ahh man, this is so terrifying!
hey when are you going to turn yours in tomorrow? maybe we could meet up there so we can actually know each other in person! haha

Oooo, yeah! Sounds cool! We should do that. I want to meet you and see your stuff. Well I was thinking about either going sometime around 11am-12pm. Or 12:20-1pm. (Those are the times my wife will be out of class and can show me were to go to drop my stuff off. Let me know if one of those times works for you. If not I can adjust.

thats the same time I was thinking of going, at around 11-12 since I have class at 12. Cool! well its in the HFAC if you know where that is...the application has a specific room number on it. lets help each other make sure we have everything
-figure drawings
-sketchbook
-animation sample
-cover letter
-5 story ideas
-top ten things
-application form (2 copies I believe)
-photo (at least the BYU students have to, dont know if you do)
-transcript

holijay In reply to yesthisisaaron [2009-04-01 04:31:36 +0000 UTC]
Sounds like everything to me. It may be different for current students but I only need a ABC report which you can print out, a transcript you have to request from the BYU office.
So I'll meet you at that room, at 11? That good? Just outside of the room, is there a hall? I'm assuming your name is Aaron.

oh yes, it says ABC report. Thats what I have so we're all set. I just had someone who recently graduated from the program critique my walk cycle, and I'm feeling kinda nervous, since I dont have time to fix anything.
My name isnt aaron, what made you think that? haha just kidding...hmm yeah just outside the room sounds good, dont know if theres a hall or not. I dont know your name though :S
