For the MLP-ATG-Alumni's week 12 day 2 theme: Draw Applejack.I'm just starting to teach myself how to paint by blending colors in photoshop, so I'm never completely satisfied when I attempt to make something look like traditional paint. But it's the best I can do for now :/

I have been meaning to come back to your gallery so I can fave and comment on this picture for ages, but I always seem to forget. Anyway though, like so many of your artworks this is absolutely adorable! Ridiculously adorable actually, as if Applejack wasn't cute enough already... I love your soft coloring and shading style here. Please keep up the fabulous work!

If you have problems with blending colors, try paint-tool SAI, I use that, mostly because a lot of people told me that it is the best programm for close to real-life painting.
Its also a really easy to use programm with a lot of functions (especially the blend (blur). brushes and bucket tool are way better as the ones in photoshop, though you dont have the editing options like you have on photoshop, thats why I use both)

I love the adorable little filly, especially with the glare of sunshine and summer's day colors surrounding her like a halo. It looks like she fell back and is surprised, but by what? (Her first successful buck?) She doesn't even notice the apples sneaking up on her.

Though you may not be especially pleased with your results, I'm quite enamored with this painting. Beyond being huggably cute, filly AJ's coloration in this comes out very nicely. It has a soft, gentle feel reminiscent of book illustration. I can easily see this being on the cover of something like "AJ's Big Day" or something similar.
In any case it's cute, subdued, and warm which makes it a pleasure to view. Very nice! ^_^

I don't often see of paintings; it's nifty how soft it can make things look. I gotta ask, are the circles by AJ bubbles, or some trick of the light?

Are you referring to the circles around AJ? I added color both behind her and in front of her in different layers. Then erased the light colors in the foreground to make those circles.

Oops, I left a stray "of" in my comment, sorry. I'd really like to know if those circles are literal bubbles, or that classic "bubbly manga background" thing.

Oh I know what you mean now haha. Well I didn't intend them to be literal bubbles or an effect of the light in the drawing. I just wanted to put some random circles here and there to try and make it look like water drops on water color. But I can see it didn't work the way I wanted it heh heh.. But now that you mention it, it does kind of look like the bubbles you see in manga backgrounds to show happiness or something.
