Description
These are screenshots from Prometheus 2012 and Alien 1979. To compare the two.Top picture is from Prometheus and lower one from Alien.
The green lines just makes you see how big the size difference is between the Space jockey and the chair. There's a lot of other differences as well as you can see.
Trunk, helmet vs head, chair design etc.

Not only that, but the Space Jockey from the first Alien film has teeth and a mummified tongue in its mouth whereas the Engineer's suit in Prometheus doesn't.

I agree.
Besides, the Space Jockey was larger than any of the Engineers in Prometheus. The Engineers were around 8-9 feet whereas the Space Jockey on LV 223 was around 18 feet.
Also, the head of the Space Jockey is actually its skull. Its eyes are even mummified and the way its mouth is opened suggests it yelled out as the Chestburster came out of its chest.
The arms of the Space Jockey are out of proportion of its torso. It is fossilized, and not rusted like metal.

Someone agrees with me! Yay! I can't say I'm very fond of the new ones at all. And the timelines don't match up. Have you seen the last one? Covenant? It's better, but still pretty meh. I'll go on and enjoy the old ones and pretend the new ones didn't happen. XD And in my mind the Space Jockey is still an intelligent Space Elephant.

oh my gawd yes i know, i read the comments it's all the same here! i can't believe that they did that in Prometheus sooo stupid man i want biomechanical elephant people from space! sigh at least the whole of the alien series comics, novels, movies and the like are mostly spin-offs meaning someone could make another movie totally different from this and it would still be just as much a part of the story.

So do I! That was like, the biggest setback ever!
Yeah, that would probably be better too! I read those Alien books... they had the elephant dudes in those, and there they were big ELEPHANT-like aliens. Really cool!

isnt there a huge year gap between Prometheus and the nostromo's landing?

Yeah, what was is... 200 years or so? Why? The corpse wont grow over the years. I'm leaning towards them not being on the same ship atm though. Too many differences.

It's not the same ship. The ship in Alien is on LV-426, in Prometheus they're on a planet called LV-223 I think. Scott said early on that they were reducing the size of the space jockey in Prometheus too sooooo <_<

did he say why he reduced the size?

Infernal-Blaze In reply to duckness [2012-06-24 04:24:32 +0000 UTC]
Because as far as I can guess, the original size was a few stories tall, and was far too large to be practically used, like when they were recovering the head for analysis.

Ah, that's great then! I didn't catch the number on the planet when they said it in Prometheus and I never remember the one in Alien. Only that it's LV-something. And they're both LV-somethings.
He did, well... but whyyyy?? Probably beacause he got that idea about them being "humans".

i mean come on this is the same universe as xenomorphs and possibly yautja truely unique and alien aliens a universe before uncontaminated at all by the "my pointy ears and green blood mean im an alien" kind of aliens then we find out the truely unique space jockeys are not awsome huge fusions of machine and elephantine exockelington creatures but something that looks like it could have walked of the set of one of J. J. Abrams new movies and that xenomorphs are not ancient horror of evolution as old as the dark corners of the universe they inhabit but whiped up out of pretty much the same stuff we are (doesn't that make them less alien?) by the space jockeys and not becomeing true xenos untill the future? plus i have always been a sucker for alan dean foster's original 1979 novelisation's idea of them being a noble people trying to warn others away from the Aliens ... seeing as the alien universe lacks any extraterrestrial life that wouldnt as soon lay eggs in you or mount your head on its all as look at you

I agree to all that. He kinda ruined all the cool hints and ideas about that large alien species that seemed to warn us away from the aliens. But that also had them in cargo... for some un known reason. Maybe for the same reason the company tries to bring an alien to earth in Alien/Aliens.
I don't mind all the human-like looking creatures in fantasy, but in sci-fi I want more original looking alien aliens.
Hehe, the new Star Wars movies. I don't really like them. They're all plastic looking and too much made for children. JatJar for example... *shudders* He's like inserting Pluto from Disney into a serious space movie. Also, Anakin was supposed to be trained fully by Obi-Wan, not Qui-Gon. It was because Obi-Wan thought he could do it as well as Yoda, not because Yoda or the counsil or whatever agreed that he should take over tutorship after Qui-Gon died. And that's just one thing... um, C3PO and R2, they didn't know each other that well from the start in the old movies. And i do believe that if Vader had built C3PO they'd both have known about it and it would have been mentioned in the old movies. Which it is not. Anyway, too many inconsistencies in those. The new ones have some good things though too. But I prefer to ignore them most of the time. Though I have seen them twice. (I also saw one with Chinese subs - The Backstroke of the West which was hilarious!) Anyway, I never was very disappointed about finding out that Vader was once a small kind boy though. But I was annoyed at the terrible acting of the young adult Anakin and the ridiculous way he became evil.

the idea is that r2d2 knew EVERYTHING but just wouldnt tell for some reason but c3po had his mind whiped "have the protocol droid's memory erased" at the end of ep3 and in ep4 c3po's line "no more adventures!" and the 80s droids cartoon established that they had known one another for some time. the novelisations of the new movies are FAR better than the movies themselves i STRONGLY suggest you read Matthew Stover's Revenge of the Sith novelisation [link] [link] true inconsistencies still exist between the two trilogies but thanks to the novelisations and the "expanded universe" (my favorite thing about starwars) smoothing them over and the fact i more or less grew up seeing the prequels as they came out i dont HATE the prequels .. they still pale in comparison to the amazing original trilogy but i still enjoy some of what they added to the ever growing starwars galaxy ... namely more aliens

Well... that's just stupid. (Not you) R2 isn't exactly a law abiding robot that can keep things quiet. Especially not if it's a secret that could have helped his friends. R2 is chaotic good (if I may use RPG terms). C3PO's "No more adventures" I feel, is quite in line with how he thinks in general. He's not an action droid or even adventurous. That's partly why he's funny. He's always complaining about everything. I think C3PO and R2 had worked together for some time, but not a long time. And certainly not since Anakin as a child created C3PO. That's just... no. Besides, if Anakin were to create a robot of his own. Why make a perfectly normal uh, forgot the word... droid. I mean C3PO is just a another translator kind of droid like ALL the other ones that look like him. And they all have a slightly airy, posh attitude as far as we have seen. I think it's just George Lucas way of getting them into the story at all. Instead of trying to make up something new (that's not a hideous failure like JarJar).
Thanx for the suggestion, but I'm not really interested in reading Star Wars books. I looked at some once, but never felt an urge to read them. I'm quite happy with just the movies. The old ones that I grew up with and loved from the first time I watched them. I even loved them when I saw parts of the third movie long before I was even old enough to watch them. I watched SW I think, 4-5 times the first year when I had finally been allowed to see them. The at least once a year after that for a long time. I have seen the old ones around 30 times. And I still laugh at the jokes, and love the characters and everything. I like parts of the new ones too. I like those cowardly aliens that puts the heroes in the pit with the monsters (that are really a giant mantisant and a red rhino... wasn't there a third one too?) and I enjoy the cool battles and the nice ships. But they're not like the old ones. They don't have the same depth and characters. And they don't match each other. I think I'm just rambling now... right? I am too tired for this atm.
Anyway, the new ones are good. The old ones are great! In my opinion.
But yes, I like more aliens too. And I really really really hope that they'll make The Mountains of Madness based on Lovecraft's story soon. He who made Pan's Labyrinth (I never remember his name) wants to make this movie together with Cameron. I hope for it.
Now I have to sleep. Good night.

I don't mind human-like aliens in fantasy and sci-fi i love (not my favorite sci-fi universe but still) but i still FAR prefer aliens to be NONE-human like most mass effect species or alot of aliens from . or even the overdone humanoid cat alien rather than "i look just like you but i have green skin that makes me completely different" and in an ALIEN movie... too see such a unique alien ..is really so ununique in a day and age that it could have looked like ANYTHING (and pretty much anything would be better than "albino beefcakes" in this case) is....so shatteringly disappointing and just unacceptable in my book on its own i think its an ok maybe even cool movie ..but as an ALIEN movie? a failure.. Same here. I haven't really seen Star Trek, just a few episodes when I chanced upon them on TV and the "new" movie. Haven't played Mass Effect either, though I have been interested in trying it out for quite some time now. Yes, I like aliens to be truly alien better than almost human. While I cannot myself come up with aliens that are that original for my own stories even... haha! But I like the unhuman ones. Like George R. Martin's or Lovecraft's aliens. They are different and cool.
Yeah, Star Wars has a lot of cool aliens acctually. Even the new ones.
I agree. As a movie, just a movie it is ok. But as a movie that's supposed to have anything at all to do with Alien... it's crap. Complete and utter crap. I agree with that review, not all of it, but a lot. And some things I think are just as bad as he thought they were, but for other reasons. Anyway... well. I don't know what to say. Prometheus was a disappointment. But it could have been an okj movie if they'd skipped the alien references.
