Description
(2011 October) A bad photo of an unfinished pattern of a Chinese dragon I'm trying to make. It's posing me a lot of problems that I don't know how to get around yet, the amateur that I am. I can't get the legs to work out for real... I just don't know how to get it to work when I actually sew it.I want the legs to attach to the body part at the top directly, not having legs that stick out on the top, but that just doesn't work when I think of how to sew it. That forces me to make a lot of little parts to attach to the body that'll make the leg stick out on the top like I don't want it to. That I can get to work, I think, but it will be one hell of a problem to sew.
The tail end is another problem... I can't sew the tail-spike-thing on afterward because that'll make it amateurish and I can't sew it on, sandwiched between the two tail parts either, because then I can't turn it right sides out later.
If you're good at seewing and know how... please help?

[link] <- there you go hun. I hope that helps. Sorry to take so long, I've not had the time to sit down and really look at this and give you a hand. It's not too hard a fix, you just need to add the legs to the body piece, and do some darts to create the illusion of hips and shoulders. Then use those leg pieces as a guide to creating the inside leg pieces to attach to the belly.
This way, you should be able to have it stand up, without using joints.

Thank you! I really don't get how to use darts... where and how do these things work? Do you mean I should sew the darts by the red dotted lines you did so the legs will "stand out" a bit... is that how? Ive never used darts before.
That's great though, I don't wanna use joints. Thank you again!

Basically, what you want to do is cut that curved line where the hips and shoulders would be. Then, pin the cuts back together, right-sides-touching, and sew them. If you look here [link] you can see how she's sewn the dart for the hindleg, so that when she turns it right-side-out, and stuffs it, it creates a pseudo-3D shape, that gives the impression of there being a hip there. You can see an example of what I mean, here: [link]
So, cut along where the dotted lines are, pin them together, RST, then sew them. Then sew the separate leg pieces to the belly piece, pin the belly piece and attached legs to each side piece, matching up the legs, and sew.

Ok, I see it now! Ok, I'll try that! Aww, that Fluttershy pony is so nice!
I'll have to sew and redo many times I guess to get everything to fit nicely! Poor me...
Again, thank you so much for the help!
