Description This is my Open Chest Binding Tutorial that many of my friends requested I make~

In case I wasn't clear enough, for Step One place the tissue/gauze over your nipple. This will really help when taking off the tape.

For Step Two, try to pull the tape to flatten your chest as much as possible WITHOUT pulling your skin uncomfortably.
The binding isn't comfy at all, but excessive pulling can cause chest pain and redness inbetween your breasts.

For Step Three, it is optional because just pulling the tape to the side can be enough for most people.
I like to reduce shadow underneath my breasts for pictures so I like to pull upwards and to the side to achieve that look.

For Step Four, I use the turned over duct tape, but double sided tape works better.
Either way, just make sure that the fabric of the shirt you are using does not crumple when you put it against the tape. This will make the shirt look weird. Smooth the fabric over the tape and make it look more natural.

When removing, there will be some pain. Watch your skin when taking off the tape SLOWLY. I pull my skin in the opposite direction to reduce pull and it also reduces pain.
I've been told that baby oil also works well with removal, though I have not tried it myself.
Keep in mind that you have tiny hairs on your skin which can be pulled out when removing tape.

......Liek mai Alois Kimono?~ |D
(it's almost done~)

I would like to point out that, yes, this does hurt when taking off. I don't suggest using this method for normal cosplays (closed shirt) since duct tape can be rather painful and tedious to work with.
Also, I have experimented with other tapes and determined that Duct tape works the best for me.
But take note that some people are allergic to it and I suggest experimenting yourself before automatically using duct tape and causing yourself unneeded pain.

This method works for many people, but depending on your cup size the results may vary.
I myself am a C-D cup and require a little more tape and pulling in certain directions to acquire the correct look.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me~

You can use heavy duty sports tape that is designed for your skin too! It allows your skin to breathe and you sweat less, so the adhesive will last longer.

This is a wonderful technique though. My twin sister used this years ago for my open-shirt Sasuke cosplay.

Um, it helps if you take a hot shower and then the adhesive on the tape will wear off. You'll still have to peel slowly but for the most part it will just come off.

NEW WARNING: DO NOT LEAVE DUCT TAPE ON FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME. I have known this for a long time and the warning is because DUCT TAPE EATS SKIN.
It has also come to my attention (with the help of and my own recent personal experiences) that with the prolonged wear of duct tape you may get blisters. I accidentally forgot about how long I had been wearing my binding for while at Anime Expo this year and I suffered the consequences. Some of the skin on the edge of where the duct tape was located had ripped off skin and caused blisters to form. PLEASE be careful and make sure that you do NOT leave on the duct tape binding for long periods of time, how long that is, I don't know. I only know that when I first ripped my skin I had the duct tape on for about 11 hours, give or take a few hours. This is much too long, I've realized. Try and limit this binding to ONLY open chest cosplays and please be sure to take caution when removing!! I love you all and don't wish to see any of you going through the pain I'm going through now (no it's not severe in the slightest, but it does get uncomfortable on occasion.)

DO NOT USE DUCT TAPE I REPEAT DO NOT ISE DUCT TAPE. ITS IS NOT FLEXIBLE OR BREATHABLE. USE SPORTS TAPE. YOU CAN SERIOUSLY DAMAGE SKIN AND BODY PARTS IF YOU USE DUCT TAPE. PLEASE BIND SAFELY GUYS

DO NOT USE DUCK TAPE.

If you'd like to bind using this method please use sports tape (can be found at local drug stores like CVS, that stuff is pretty cheap!)
If you use duck tape you can cause a lot of damage to your skin and rib cage.

Pros of Sports tape:
-It's a bit more breathable
-it won't rip off your skin
--the glue won't irritate your skin
-it will stay on even during long convention days and sweating.
-you can use your liquid concealer to match parts of it to your skin tone c:

That was uncalled for. I read the description, and provided more information then what you had up there. Duct tape is dangerous to use on skin. I've done my research into this. I'm sorry that I just wanted to warn people that it is dangerous?? And give them a better solution??

i too do a alois cosplay but ive also heard that using duct tape is extremely bad. I went to a con and a guy form a panel told me they had to literallycut the poor girl out and take her to the hospital... curse my big bust... its only a c/d but its still bothersome for female to male cosplay.

Thank you so much. I'm a FtM, and this has helped me SO MUCH. I needed a way to bind. And I find this the easiest for me. I have duct tape that works well for this and it works very well. This method is my favorite so far other than using a binder. So, thank very much. I cosplay also, so that's how I found this XD
ANyways...much thanks. <3

As a fellow FtM, I can tell you wholeheartedly, PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS METHOD OFTEN. I used to do this very often and it caused major irreversible damage to my spine. How much you're saying you do this is enough to cause quite a bit of damage over a few years. Please don't do this.

a little late perhaps, but SPRAY ADHESIVE is my best friend you spray it under the tape as it starts to come off and it'll stick. However, it makes it harder to remove the tape. Baby oil is creat, if you put it a flannel and work it under the tape. Otherwise, I recommend using goo gone!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

yirico In reply to Noi-Chii [2013-03-10 22:12:45 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it could just be the quality of the duct tape xD
if it pulls off you just need to add another piece of tape, it happens to me sometimes.
and it's not comfortable, lol.

If the duct tape isn't working out you can always just try another tape.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Noi-Chii [2013-03-08 19:42:56 +0000 UTC]

Im definitely going to try this.. Since you cant wear it too long as said in your description.. a whole day on a convention will be alright tho?

Just hope I can get the tape off... xD

Is there a way to do this without duct tape? My mum refuses to let my sister open shirt bind with it. She's going to need to leave the binding on all day.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

yirico In reply to TheFifthDollanganger [2013-02-02 03:00:30 +0000 UTC]

It's a good thing your mom refused to let your sister use duct tape for that long!
Use sports tape! It's meant to go on skin so it does not eat at skin the way duct tape can
and it's always good to refresh tape one or more times during the day, let your skin relax when you take it off (even for only a few minutes) and then rebind

If you pull too tight your skin might get a bit red and it'll be uncomfortable, I suggest taking off the tape and trying again if this happens.
And it will hurt a bit getting the tape off, read the description.
