Persia was the greatest empire of the ancient Middle-East, not only for its extension, but also for its political organization and cultural legacy. The ancient Persian Empire started with the rise of the Achaemenid dynasty under Cyrus the Great in the 6th century B.C., and ended with the Islamic conquest of Persia in the 6th century C.E. It encompassed diverse peoples of Central Asia, the Arabian peninsula, Mesopotamia, North Africa, Eastern Europe, Anatolia and Caucasus. Persia, much like Phoenicia, was a multicultural civilization, and it's hard to identify exclusive Persian elements in their works of art. This drawing is based on a figurine from the Achaemenid period, made around 450 b.C.
